    Desktop disappears/reappears; no renaming


    Running Windows 10, with the latest update. Latest nVidia card update installed. When I click on the desktop, after a couple of seconds it all disappears, replaced by the background color. See that for about a second, then the desktop reappears. If I try to open a folder or shortcut on the desktop, it does what I just described, but nothing opens. However, if I try the same item again, then it works. I am baffled.

    Hi, welcome to tenforums. This sounds like explorer is crashing and restarting.

    Have a look at your Reliability History to confirm. Examine red X's and see what information the report includes.
    (e.g. Windows key + S, reliabilty).

    I don't know what the 'latest update' is.. I've just received an update this morning. People run different builds from 1803 to 1903, and then there are Insiders.

    What is your Windows build?
    Windows key + r, winver

    Does the same symptom occur if you right click on a file?

    History: Presumably this didn't happen at one point. What change has been made that might relate to this happening?

    Please create a new user for test purposes. Log in as that user and see if the same thing happens.
