    Downloads folder hangs

    Hi All,
My W10 system has been working great since purchase Jan2018 (I do updates as available), but as of 8/11/19 my Downloads folder is hanging. That's a problem for me because even tho I have my Firefox set to ask for download location, Win still points to Downloads FIRST...where it hangs! I have downloaded & run MS's winfilefolder utility & it worked...for 1 time...then NOT.
I'm hoping some of you may have a solution.
    Please & THANK YOU!

    My system:
Dell gaming computer (tho I don't use it for gaming)
    Win10 home
    Core I5 7th gen
    16GB RAM

It points towards the system looking to see if the file is safe and closing the download session.

No idea what either of you are talking about. C2Violet, can you please explain more exactly what is happening.
Take screen captures if it will help demonstrate the problem. De as descriptive as you can.

Bro, your answer is a tad cryptic.

Because of the changes to Defender and how 10 has been secured with 1809, downloads appear that they are hung up at 0% left. It is because the system is scanning that file for possible worms, checking the hash against the server that the download is from. Some downloads can appear hung up longer than others.

All comes down to the Real-time Protection settings. You disable or replace Defender and turn off Windows protection for system protection, this goes away.

When that happens you get a notification at the lower left so it should not be a surprise. The Defender scan is a security plus, why would you want to turn it off?

Ideally it would be great if there was a way to click Cancel on the scan for know good downloads.

The issue is that you do not get a notification while the Real Time Protection is checking against the Cloud data that Microsoft uses take sure that the download is not going to wreck the system. It's what you give up when you are allow3d to use a company like Microsoft Operating System property.

I just downloaded the latest CCleaner with Edge and got a very visible notification that a security scan was being done.

Probably. It is more noticeable with Chrome. I barely use the Windows desktop, so I just do not let the hesitation get to me. Been dealing with a clipboard issue with the current broken Public Beta of iOS 13 and this site, which means dealing with a third party add-in keyboard along with freezing screen while on power.
