Windows 10 Pro 1803 Upgrade to 1903 Black Screen at 48%

I have recently trying to upgrade my windows 10 pro from 1803 to 1903 due to end support in Nov 19 message given by MS.
I have tried all the upgrade method and all given the same result.
    1) Upgrade from windows update and setting.
    2) ISO file - with the drivers, etc. updates uncheck. only keep my files and programs.
    3) Media create tools etc.
The upgrade will complete windows 10 installation, but when come to restart for updating, it reaches 30% and restart again, and continues the upgrade, when reaches 48%, the upgrade blue screen will become black screen and stop there.
    Attached file from $WINDOWS.~BT\Sources\Panther
    setuperr.log
please help and anyone having the same issues with the solution. thanks.

P.S can admin please help to move my post to installation and upgrade?

Hi, please note these are just preliminary steps.

Ensure you have a current disk image of Windows before starting (e.g. using Macrium reflect - free - + external storage for disk image files.

    Please complete these basic checks:
From an admin command or Powershell prompt run
    chkdsk c: /scan

If not ok, post the summary result.
    If ok, similarly run
    SFC /SCANNOW
    and post the result

    If ok, continue:

Please post the result of running the Windows Update Troubleshooter.
    Please run
Reset Windows Update in Windows 10

Make sure your BIOS is up to date

How much free space have you on C: ? You should aim to have at least 30Gb free

Now disconnect any unnecessary peripherals, and ensure no external disks are connected.

    Perform a clean boot.

Now rt click and Mount the iso
Open the new drive letter in file explorer, and run setup.exe
Choose not to update (you can disconnect the internet).

If this fails, note any error message and numbers.
    Please post setupact.log, setuperr.log

Note it seems there may be limitations using this MBO with Win 10:

    Hi, Thanks for your reply.

I have done most of the steps as mentioned in your post.
I have removed all the USB devices, left only the MB, Display Card, SSD (C drive) and Data Drive (D drive).
    1) chkdsk c: /scan - normal no bad sector.
    2) SFC /scannow

    3) BIOS - latest as per in Asus website.
    4) C drive free space is about 110GB
    5) setuperr.log and CBS.log as attached, setupact.log is about 150MB and not able to attach here.

    setuperr.logCBS.docx

It happens to Bluescreen appeared after i have left the PC on for about 15 mins after the black screen appear. it shows DRIVER_PNP_WATCHDOG failure. Not sure is PNP referring to the plug and play display card as I only left this card in the PC system.

You can check if the content of the CBS.log file indicates the errors some are reporting with Defender. However, if you are upgrading, and the disk is ok (we only know about the file system) and not receiving updates corruption might there might not matter.

Known and Resolved issues for Windows 10 May 2019 Update version 1903
Please note, for example, the second issue here. Does it apply?
    (Intel IRST)

In some cases it's necessary to do an in-place upgrade repair install before an upgrade succeeds.
For that you need an iso (or bootable disk) of your existing build; start this after having logged in normally.

As is documented quite often here, (and I did ask it be added to the relevant tutorial- not sure if that was done, but it's in my comments afterwards) please download and use
    Heidoc iso downloader
for one way to easily access old builds.

To upload large files, compress them (zip) then upload the zip file.
But then think- who's going to read a really large file...

I've had problems this week with the 1903 version and MS remotely downloaded a copy of the 1809 onto my laptop however ................. their Media Creation Tool doesn't work !! Despite several attempts and several days later I have managed to fix the problem of installing using a USB (which wasn't an option in the BIOS)

Managed to install the 1809 version but then ran into further problems. Asked MS for help again. Again they remoted in and said they'd fixed the problem ................. Nope !!

Reinstalled the 1903 version (but with different setting via Rufus) and hey presto ...... seems to be working a treat !

The black screen at 48% is normal and happened to me also as I upgraded. It just takes some time for the update process to complete. The black screen will go away on it's own as the update completes. How much time it takes is up to the hardware in your computer. My black screen lasted about 5 to 6 minutes.

You can use "Whocrashed" to diagnose Blue Screens.

Mine have to wait for about 10 mins but instead of windows boot up, it gives me a bluescreen.

Thanks. will try first 1809 to see is it works.
Never try whocrashed before, hopefully not so complicated to understand the errors.

Already rule out Intel IRST from my PC. will try the Heidoc iso downloader to get 1809 and install to see the results.
