    Hybernate that turns to sleep

I've configured my laptop to hybernate when I push power button when it's on. So it does. But randomly it turns itself on and goes into sleep mode. I might be out whole day and I don't know for how long it was in the sleep mode (basically on). Why does it decide what to do? It gives a feeling of not being in control of your machine. As if I'm the guest and it is the host. I've some peripherals connected to laptop through USB port and they start working when computer leaves Hybernation mode and into the sleep mode. Even without that, the fact itself is annoying. Quite. Any links where this concern would be better addressed will be much appreciated. Thanks

Open cmd.exe and run powercfg /sleepstudy See Generate Sleep Study Report in Windows 10 for further info.

If you know how to use Event viewer, you can see both sleep and hibernate transitions at

    System log
    Sources Kernel-Power, Power-Troubleshooter
    EventIDs 1, 42

I have attached it as a Custom view definition that you can import.Sleep-Hibernate transitions.zip

This view is one of those awkward ones where you have to look in the Details tab [not just the General tab] to see the Target state value, which is what differentiates between sleep & hibernate. To check which states your computer goes into,
    - note the time then sleep the computer then wake it up & read the Details tab for that time
    and next
    - note the time then hibernate the computer then wake it up & read the Details tab for that time
