Need help with inaccessible boot device win 10 please

    Hi all

I recently plugged in a HDD to my normal operating pc running Windows 10. I was copying the HDD to an SSD. I downloaded a programme to correctly copy the HDD to SSD but when I went to restart my pc I received the "inaccessible boot device" message.

I've tried everything to try and fix this problem, including resetting bios, selecting correct win 10 SSD to boot, fixmbr bootrec etc etc.

Nothing is working however I have managed to get back into my win 10 SSD using the boot recovery winpe tool from kyhi on here.

Now that I am able to access my drive contents Inna Windows environment how do I go about fixing the boot issue? Is there a programme I can run to automatically fix whatever it is that is causing the issue? Or am I just best off getting what I need from the drive and reinstalling windows 10?

    Thank you very much

Can you still boot normally to your old HDD?
If so, try copying the drive to the SSD again.

What program did you use to copy the old HDD to the new SSD?
Were there any problems during the copying.
Why are you switching to an SSD? Have you experienced any problems with the old HDD?

The old HDD was from a completely different laptop to my desktop that is having the issues. I think when I plugged it in somehow it messed up the boot but I can't fix it.

I'm just gonna get my data off the desktop SSD then reinstall windows

That's probably the easiest thing to do if Startup Repair doesn't work.
I haven't had much success with manually repairing boot files.
    Good luck!

More than likely, one is legacy BIOS and the other is UEFI.

. I downloaded a programme to correctly copy the HDD to SSD
What Program is it? Is it a Clone program? (ie) Macrium Reflect, Acronis etc. If you chose to clone the old HDD to the SSD it would wipe out the current Windows 10 OS on the SSD.
