Receive "How do you want to open this file" on startup

I have started receiving the message and pop-up "How do you want to open this file?" every time I start my computer. I have no idea what file might be causing this. Is there a way to find the file that might be causing problems or is there a way to reset the pop-up so that it does not come up? I am not trying to open a file. The message comes up as if it is part of the start up process. It comes up even before I have time to open a program to open a file.

Look at Startup items in Task Manager to begin with.

Usually in the banner of the pop up window it will tell you the program that is trying to open. Try taking a screenshot and attach it in your next post.
You can also Right click the Taskbar and start the TaskManager, go to the Startup tab and see if there are processes for programs that you might have uninstalled that are still running.
Or download AutoRuns from Sysinternals to see what is running with Windows startup.

    Get Autoruns: https://download.sysinternals.com/files/Autoruns.zip

Download and run ProcessExplorer. It does not need to be installed.

Drag-and-drop target to find an image. If you're not sure which application corresponds to which image in Process Explorer, click and drag the little gun sight icon on the Process Explorer toolbar, and drop it on any visible window to find out what process/image it is.
Once the error message is on the screen, start ProcessExplorer and drag the target icon and drop it on the error message window. It will show the process that generated that window highlighted in blue in the PE window.

Then use Task Manager Startup tab and Services tabs to find and disable that process.

    Win10 error.docx

This is a screen shot of what I get at startup. I have restarted a couple of times and the arrow is not indicating what process is causing the message. The arrow is on a different application every time I start.

I have checked task manager as soon as the pop-up appears and there are no processes running.

Have you disabled startup programs to see if any one of them causing the problem.

Hi, I have the same problem and I found the file. On my computer it is here:- C:\Users

    See the attached image.

I see the last person was having problems with realtek player. This is just a file that has nothing in it.
