Drive is not Accessible? Fix Security Tab but it's annoying.

So i have a portable 500 gigs HDD which i was using to copy data from a Really old laptop on which i needed to do a clean install of win 7, So when i was copying data i accidentally bumped the HDD and it got ejected, Since the laptop i was using was really old and it had corrosion and rust on it's USB slots which cause it to get ejected when the cable is moved a slight bit.

So the data isn't lost i googled up and found that's it's something related with the Security Policy Tab of windows and i have to add the current user as the owner in order to view/copy/modify the files. Which is easy to do and i did. BUT! it gets annoying after i have to do this on EVERY folder inside the Disk and several files, i don't know why it affects several files and folder even though i've chosen "Replace Owner Ship of Folders and Files including sub-directories". Which doesn't works on every folder and i manually have to do this everytime i connect it to a different PC. Which gets really annoying. So if someone knows how to fix this permanently then please let me know.

    Thanks.

It's not down to ejected it is the disk is owned by original owner you take ownership of the whole drive at once with our util

I would just pull the hard drive in the laptop and copy directly from the drive Use xcopy. See How to Clone Hard Drive via Command Prompt in Windows 10/8/7 Simply?

Thanks for the utility but i really didn't wanted to add a Context menu and since my brother and sister are both sharing data with this HDD they can't really get around this thing always.

I've encountered this before but back then i just straight out Copied the data and Formatted the drive and put the data back. Which then started working on every pc or laptop.

The only problem is that it requires you to have permission everytime you connect the HDD to a different computer or a different user.

Extracting the Data from the drive isn't a problem, The only problem is that everytime i plug this hdd on a different pc i have to set the owner ship of the whole drive data to the current user which really takes time and is annoying since there are a lot of files.

That only does it in the OS if you do not go into advanced. icacls works like chmod/chown.

So what is the command to use to grant access so he can move the drive between systems then?

Apologies for a late reply, but i've tried almost everything i could find ICACLS doesn't help, it grants the permission automatically but still the case is still there i have to manually add owners to the files in order to access them on any other PC.

You said the drive in the Enclosure is really old. I would first add the Take Ownership to the Right click Context menu. Once you have taken ownership of the drive, I would copy the data to a new External HDD and discard the old one. Now try taking that drive on other computers and see if it works
