    System waking from hibernate

I have used gpedit.msc to set Enable Windows Update Power Management to disabled but still I come back to my laptop after hibernating it and find it is awake and that powercfg -lastwake shows:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32>powercfg -lastwake
    Wake History Count - 1
    Wake History [0]
    Wake Source Count - 1
    Wake Source [0]
    Type: Wake Timer
    Owner: [SERVICE] \Device\HarddiskVolume2\Windows\System32\svchost.exe (SystemEventsBroker)
Owner Supplied Reason: Windows will execute 'NT TASK\Microsoft\Windows\UpdateOrchestrator\Universal Orchestrator Start' scheduled task that requested waking the computer.

How do I stop this ?

I don't believe this is quite the same scenario - AFAIK this case should be covered by the change I made using Group Editor.

Open Task Scheduler (taskschd.msc) and locate the
    NT TASK\Microsoft\Windows\UpdateOrchestrator\Universal Orchestrator Start task
    Then disable it.

Oh Yucky! What a horrid set of hoops to jump through to turn of this intrusive nuisance.

to put the answer here in the thread:

    Get psexec.exe, run:
    cmd (as administrator)
get to the proper folder with psexec
    psexec -s -i cmd.exe
    in the new window
    taskschd.msc

Then you can disable the UpdateOrchestrator task ...

Please could some of you MVPs here kick up a fuss about this (they might even listen to you).

Well blow me down, I came back to my lappie last night after hibernating it and "guess what" - yes there it was sat at the login screen again. Task scheduler shows me the that UpdateOrchestrator task has been re-enabled.

Thanks very much MS (NOT). When I put my computer into hibernate, I want it to STAY there, not get woken up at random times because some clever programmer thought it was a good idea.

I've taken a sledge-hammer to this particular nut - I went into advanced power configuration and set both "Allow Wake Timers" to Disable - even though this stops my weekly automatic backup from running. Grrr, snarl!!!

I'm not marking this solved until MS push an update to turn this **** off!

Instead of disabling the task, could you modify it to not wake the computer?

Hmmm "Task Scheduler is not available ..." Even though the service is running fine. I'll see if the change took and will work.

Well bless its cotton socks - you guessed it - I unticked "Wake the computer to run this task" box, and hibernated at the end of the day, and there it was sat at the login screen this morning.

Powercfg -last wake points to "Universal Orchestrator Start", so MS bless them have put a LOT of effort into making sure this **** is really hard to disable, which only annoys me even more! It's my computer and I decide when it's allowed to wake up overnight.
