    A question about 64bit vs 32bit

I was running Win 10 Home 32bit on my laptop and everything was fine. I saw a game called "Postal Redux" online. I have most of the Postal 2 games already. I wanted to try out the Postal Redux game. It turns out that Postal Redux will only run on 64 bit. I installed 64 bit and I got the game working. It was a big disappointment on the graphics, controls and a wast of money when compared to the other Postal 2 games that I have. Also in 64 bit everything in Win 10 is dragging, things take longer to load, the browser is slower and games sometimes crash. Is this all due to the fact that I have only 4 gig's of memory? Also it is hard to find more then 4 gig's in a single memory stick without paying out big bucks. This laptop has just 1 memory stick port. And I don't have that kind of money to buy like a 8 or a 16 gig stick, all in one stick. So go back to 32 bit?

I'm not sure whether 4GB of RAM on that laptop would cause it to drag. I've run X64 on an old laptop with 4GB of RAM, but I never tried any games on it. The ordinary Windows functions were OK.

I see that it does indeed have a single SODIMM slot. The maximum capacity is 8GB.

Whether it'd be worth $45US to experiment, is up to you. RAM & SSD Upgrades | Dell Inspiron 15 (3541) | Crucial.com

There's cheaper RAM out there, but Crucial guarantees compatibility.

Well when the funds are available I think I am going to get a better laptop. I got this laptop from a pawn shop for $50. with 6 months left on the factory warrantee when I got it. It also came with OS Win 8.0. But at the time I only had Win 7 Home 32 and 64bit. So I del the Win 8.0 partition and installed Win 7 Home 32bit.

I was going to say that you need a new laptop because I think yours is old.
Then I read your last post. It's Windows 8 makes it clear that your laptop is VERY old.

Have you seen my specs below?

Both were W7 machines on 4GB RAM. Admittedly, the 2009 Samsung with a Celeron T3100 is a bit slow, but that's why its relegated to 'test machine' duties. The 2011 machine with a Pentium B950 makes a good x64 'daily driver' (but then I don't do 'games').

(until the site adds space for System Three and beyond you'll just have to guess what my faster/newer machines are )

That laptop is hardly "VERY old" considering Window 8 was released in 2013. I know people running Windows 10 on machines older than that. I'm running Windows 10 on a "Windows 8" laptop without issue. Yes, it's not the speediest, but it does perform.

That said, and to the OP. If you're trying to run a 64-bit game, and you only have 4gig of memory, that's a huge problem as a 64-bit OS runs better with more than 4-gig or RAM. You'd also need a better GPU for the game. In that regard, your hardware is inadequate for what you're trying to do, especially with only 4gig of RAM.

    Good luck.

Before upgrading the RAM, I would put an SSD in it. You will see a much higher performance improvement when upgrading from spinner HDD to SSD than you will in going from 4GB to 8GB RAM.

Your laptop was never designed for games more than solitaire or little flash games period. It on to p of basic graphics it comes with a low end processor.

I have clients for years try to play games on laptops like that and they hate the facts. A $350-400 laptop is not going to play most games regardless of ram or ssd.

Here are the requirements for that game. POSTAL Redux system requirements | Can I Run POSTAL Redux

Five years is about all I can tolerate from a PC, even a high-end desktop. But a five-year-old laptop is just firewood. (Or plastic to be recycled.)
