Is it possible to use keyboard/mouse to turn pc on ?

    Hello,

A few days ago my Asus desktop pc will only turn on by pressing power on button several times until pc starts..so i
ordered another power switch cable from Asus spares ...but unfortunately the one ordered did not come with the plastic switch holder as it is unavailable....i can't use this pc now.

When fitting the power switch into the existing holder one of the lugs inside the holder broke therefore the small power microswitch does not sit in properly.

My question is can... another mouse be used to turn on pc...by assigning say the right mouse button as 'power on'

I believe you have go into the bios-power management settings somewhere ...and would plugging a secondary mouse cause some issues with the main primary one.

Using a back up pc for now.

    Thank you

Momentary switch (ie doorbell button). The switch you have will work as is until you get the replacement in.

If you have a PS2 socket then there may be an entry in the bios to use the keyboard to start the PC probably under power settings or APM or similar, you can use the switch to startup to get into the bios.
    Or
Glue the switch in place with superglue.

"If" you can get into the PC's BIOS and "if" your BIOS supports it, there's an option to power the PC on by mouse or keyboard...

However, I'm unable to verify if a wireless mouse or keyboard would work because it seems this option is no longer listed in my recent BIOS update so I can't test it. FYI, the image above is from different BIOS posted online.

Have you checked the asus forums or contacted asus? What is the case model? Post pictures of the switch and any markings.

Start by getting the pin out diagram for the motherboard. If just a case issue, I would put the MB into a new case. The actual cable with all of the wires is just a jumper, not the actual switch. It allows connection between the case and mb.

Post a picture of the switch and case. You may be able to find a case on eBay that someone is getting rid of as parts.

3D print it. Check the local colleges, trade schools, high schools, to see if they can manufacture it.
