PC Freezing while in idle on Windows 1903

PC Freezing while in idle on Windows 1903. I know its not a hardware issue since it was working fine on v1809. I did a fresh install of 1809 and its working fine, but as soon as I update to 1903 the freezing while on idle happens again. I read it could be a drivers issue, but I used Driver Easy and all the drivers were up to date and still it froze on idle. I had the PC set to stay awake and hard drive not to turn off and the computer still froze while not in use.

Anyone with the same issue on 1903? Does anyone have a solution? Thank you

It is strongly recommended that you only install device manufacturer website.

I would like you to check the system integrity of your Windows OS installation.

    • Please type cmd.exe into Start Menu search box.
    • Please right click cmd.exe and select "Run as administrator".
    • Please type the following command and press the <Enter> key: sfc /scannow (Please note that there is a space between 'sfc" and "/scannow".)
    • It should take about 20 minutes to run, if there are no serious errors.
    • If the System File Checker reports that some errors were fixed, but some remain; please reboot your computer and run the System File Checker from an Administrator Command Prompt, again.
    • If the System File Checker again reports that some errors were fixed, but some remain, please reboot your computer and run it a third time.
    • If "Resource Integrity Violations" (errors) are reported that could not be corrected, or were not corrected after a third SFC run, then please navigate to the folder: C:\Windows\Logs\CBS and copy the file "cbs.log" to your desktop immediately. I am asking you do that because that file is dynamic, so I want to be able to examine a copy that is unchanged from the time that the System File Checker was run.
    • If there are errors that couldn't be corrected, let me know and I will provide you with instructions as to how to upload the file.

I would like to have you run a Clean Boot.

How to perform a Clean Boot.

Warning: Disabling items in Services or Startup may leave your antivirus disabled until the process is ended. For this reason I would suggest that you perform this process off line.

Press the keys to open Run, then type msconfig in the search box. This will open System Configuration.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, you should enter the password or provide confirmation.

    (1) Click/tap on the General tab.

    (2) Click/tap on the Selective startup option.

    (3) Remove the check mark in the Load startup items check box.

    4. Click on the Services tab.

    5. Place a check mark in the Hide all Microsoft services check box, this will remove the Microsoft Services from the list but will still be running.

    6. Click Disable all, this will remove all of the check marks in the Services list.

    7. Click on Apply then OK

Click on Restart in the window that opens.

When the computer is restarted it will boot normally.

If the problem does not continue after the restart please do the following.

    8. Divide the number of these startup services and programs by two and you place checks in the first half of these, then restart the computer.

    9. If the problem doesn't return in those services and programs remove the checks and place checks in the remaining services and programs and restart the computer.

    10. When you find which half the service or program is in go on to the next step.

    11. The half which has the service causing this problem remove half of the checks as you did previously to see which half has this service. Do the same for the programs. Restart the computer.

    12. If it isn't in the first half of these services and programs, do the same with the last half of the services and programs.

    13. Once you have narrowed it down to the last three or four services and programs remove the checks one at a time till you find the service or program at fault.

Once you have found the service or program post it in your topic. Do not take any action until I suggest the next step.

Right now I am on 1809.... since its whats working. Maybe a stupid question, but if it was an issue with my PC, why does it work well on 1809 and has issues in 1903?

Also, do you want me to check the system integrity while on 1809 or after updating to 1903?

Maybe one of the programs not compatible with version 1903. Check system integrity of current version of Windows 10.

Do I now update to 1903 and then try a clean boot and see if I can pinpoint which services is causing the problem?

Something else happens when using clean boot method. The PC after a while of non usage.... it seems to be powered off..... no fans spinning, just the motherboard light. It was also as if it was asleep, but completely unresponsive. If I press the power or reset button the PC does not turn on or wake. The only way to get it to respond is by turning PSU power switch off and hold the power button to discharge the motherboard. Then I can turn PSU power back and turn on PC.

This is on clean boot..... but in regular boot PC, it would do sort of the same, except I could hold power button to turn off and then back on without discharging motherboard and power light would be lit. The weird thing is that this only happens in 1903 and not in 1809.

Clean boot disables startup programs and third-party services it will not cause power problem.

Driver Corruption or Errors. Similar to overheating, hardware failure can cause a system freeze.

    Update device drivers.

    Install Windows updates.

    Install latest version of programs.

I have Avast free antivirus installed but I have the same setup of windows 10 1903 on 5 other PC's without issue. How can older PC's same 1903 version with avast work perfect on 5 out of 6 computers? The newest computer is the one having issues with 1903 and I cant figure out why.

You can create new extra free partition to clean install Windows 10 1903 version to test clean install causing the problem.

Also upgrade your computer BIOS firmware.
