If you haven't got the keyboard then all discussions are moot on this topic --however you might in some ways be able to add an on screen keyboard --even for a non touch screen / system and then just use mouse or whatever to enter data.
I think for some systems without screen touch keyboards you might via the various settings for people with disabilities of various sorts also be able to get some sort of "Mouse" keyboard working.
With Windows you can add as many different keyboards as you want to for input whether you have the hardware attached or not.
