Glitch in Windows 10

First upgrade or did you get to perform a clean install afterwards? If this is the first initial upgrade the MS joke is on you as it has been for any number of others so far! The upgrade gets buggy requiring you to once activated to either upgrade over it to repair the bugs or plan a fresh full clean install of Windows 10!

And there you have it folks! Upgrades especially over previous versions which have been in use for some time see a lot of clutter in the system registry, temp files that never got cleaned up, and then other goofs in both file corruption over time and even possible disk errors causing a number of headaches to appear. Recommendation? Hopefully you have anything important backed up from the drive itself! NUKE IT! Save the factory recovery partition but nuke the rest in order to get a " Clean Install " of 10 going for you! That will save on the eventual need to see it done anyways to see a working copy of Windows back on the laptop there.

In some cases the existing drivers presently on are not the actual problem since the upgrade was lacking something else only noticed after you shut down after running it for the first time. I had run into a few annoyances at first here until seeing a second upgrade replace the first while still planning to nuke it here!

The one other fast effort you can try which may help is to run the System File Checker tool that verifies and may replace any 10 files that didn't go on fully. First you have to get into Windows however in order to run it. First you have to boot live from either the usb installation key or a Recovery Drive you can make up for this type of situation.

Generally something being greyed out would indicate a particular Windows file not a 3rd party program's file was either corrupted or missing and that is why you would run that. At other times simply restarting the machine will tend to see what didn't load the first time suddenly load with Windows and all will be well. If the problem continues to persist then you know there is something that needs to be repaired. But after looking a bit more closely....

The real problem from what seems the most obvious problem on review would be the location of it's icon when pinned by default to the task bar right next to note the Start button itself and you are hitting it at the same time as the Start button itself.

As you see the magnifying glass icon on the task bar is Cortana under a different name(Search the web and Windows) when clicking on that and you can see that gone but end up with the Tasks button moved over to take it's place by right clicking on the task bar to bring up the right click menu and when clicking on "search" you have the choice of either Hidden or Show search icon which by default is the one checked off. Simply check off the Hidden instead to see what happens.

If this is the upgrade you just put on over an existing copy of Windows of a previous version the solution if you want to keep all files and programs if 10 is activated would be to see an upgrade over the upgrade to act as a repair install of Windows before deciding on the actual best remedy of seeing a clean install of 10 go on! The initial upgrade is simply put as BUGGY from the get go and needs to be replaced once MS has activated it the first time so you are ready to go as far as any clean installs!

Well first you have to have the 10 edition's iso downloaded and saved to the hard drive if not already on flash drive. Then you have the choice if the present copy of 10 has already seen activation to either run the setup.exe executable file found at the root directory of the flash drive while still booted in Windows or boot from the flash drive to run the Install Now option once the files on the flash drive are loaded into the active system memory or ram.

The best advice is to follow the guide for the option you choose while still going over the clean install guide for some cautions and additional information seen there. If you saw the upgrade go on without first creating the install key or saving to the drive you will want to run the tool again likely on another machine entirely now since it will stall when started in 10 but run on 7 or 8 with 32bit run in the 32bit Windows and the 64bit MC tool version run on the 64bit Windows.

Now if 10 did come by way of the WIndows Updates the Wim file is likely still on the drive which is another option we might have to get into in order to see another upgrade. For getting the download in iso form however you will first need o get the correct version of the tool downloaded and running where you then select the edition and flavor seen on separate screens and then select the create media option followed by either selecting the usb flash drive or save to install later where you then create the install key with a 3rd party program like UltraISO which many have previously used for 7 and 8. Now if you are planning on keeping things intact on the drive which won't be found in either the Program Files direcory or the WIndows.old folder where everything is backed up to you will first want to rename the existing Windows.old to Windows.Backup or Personal so the next one doesn't replace what you still have in that unless you already saw the first cleaned off of the drive. Personally the smart move if you are not strapped by limited time to install all of your programs fresh from scratch would be a full clean install and perhaps even seeing to a reformat of the OS primary at least while that will also lose the option to revert back in the first 30 days which will be the case anyways when seeing to a second upgrade install.
