    Strange initial screen - has anyone seen this before?

    Hi everybody,

    I bought a new Microsoft Surface Pro and was greeted with the attached screen (I blackened some unnecessary reflections of the screen and the two white parts showed the same 7-digit number). This somehow looks dubious to me. I was asking myself: Could this be a virus? Or did I get a returned surface instead of a new one (which I paid for)?

    Since I couldn't find anything on the internet, I now hope for your help. To enable future users with the same issue to find something with a search engine, I'll write down some of the lines the screen shows:
    * "TestCase 05: Re_Enable Code integrity"
    * "PCH_Value:"
    * "Resetting OOBE ExplorerStartCount Property in Registry ...UserOOBE"
    * "Resetting OOBE UserSignedIn Property in Registry"
    * "TestCase 06: Manual check for black lines"
    * "PASS: *******" (a 7-digit number)
    * "Remove Keyboard Accessory to Shutdown"

    Does anyone know the meaning of this screen?
    What is this password for?

    I much appreciate your help!

    I have never seen that screen but I once found a manufacturer's installation record log left behind and it looks similar in nature.

    The fact that it is showing up now means that it has probably not been run correctly [because it is fair to assume that it would be designed to run once at the end of building it but never again].

    I suggest getting hold of the Surface support team and asking them. I assume you have a period after purchase when you can contact a customer support group online / by phone.

    Best of luck,
    Denis

    If you bought this brand new out of the box and it has been less then 30 days since purchase, take it back and exchange it for a new one. there should be no questions asked. If it is past 30 days, you can send it into Microsoft and they will fix it for free.
