Can't change taskbar color

I upgraded to Win10 v1903 and everything seemed to be ok. My desktop accent color (teal) still in the taskbar & notification. Then I noticed the metro (Start) screen was black instead of teal. I foolishly went to color Settings and now have ugly white (or black) taskbar & notification -- and I can't get it back to teal! Fiddling with settings before making a new backup a bad idea. To restore version 1809 system or hope the next update fixes it...

I hate the black taskbar so much. So I installed TranslucentTB from the Microsoft Store. Ahh much better but the image isn't dark enough. I found the background image and made a new one with a dark teal band across the bottom - about 40px but it's trial and error. Perfect (I can live with black notifications). Of course even this fails - the bar is black when Firefox and Thunderbird are maximized (dark teal if a smaller window or minimized). I hope the Windows design team hear more whining and fix this mess. At least I can read white on black. (pet peeve: screen designers using tiny grey text on dark grey background!)

Within the PERSONALIZATION screen select THEMES then WINDOWS. You will now be able to change your taskbar and the other requested items in this thread.

I posted because when I change the taskbar colour setting, it had no effect.

Classic shell used to have a color choice for the taskbar but it's missing now.
Taskbar colour selection in Open Shell. Right click Open Shell Start button, choose Settings and go here. You can enter the colour code or click on it for more colours:

I have Windows 10 Pro. It will not let me see the build number.

NONE of the above suggestions work. I am only allowed to make the taskbar black, dark gray, or light gray.

Why does Windows 10 have to be black and ugly just like 19th Century electrical equipment?

The Maxisquash er I mean Microsoft Store would not let me download TranslucentTB but I did find some other site that let me download a version. Now my taskbar is either whatever my background is or medium gray that is a contrast with both black letters ( TrayStatus ) or white letters ( NetSpeedMonitor ) .

Windows 10 is worse than how Congress is the exact opposite of progress.

What I mean by Maxisquash is that is what Bill Gates did to the computer business.

Open the Search icon in the taskbar and search for "version" or run C:\Windows\System32\winver.exe

Glad to hear you found it - I cannot imagine why MS wouldn't allow you to install it (error message?). I fixed the background issue by editing my background image with a solid colour band across the bottom where the taskbar is - I posted previously giving the height of the band. If you have other odd things that don't work properly, consider reinstalling windows 10 pro - it can be done without removing your stuff but a clean install is always the best. This forum probably has the instructions if you want to try.

BTW I should lend you my avatar to go with your ID

Turns out that what I had to do change the background of the taskbar and start menu was to REBOOT! How come nobody including Maxisquash's directions mentioned this?

Yet another reason why the name of Microsoft needs to be changed to Maxisquash because that is what Bill Gates did to the computer business.

Thank you WaterCat. At least it is not how in Windows 95B ( the version that worked ) I am not allowed to capitalize a file name until I change the name to something else and then rename it again!

    Mt Windows 10 Pro Version.

Turns out that I have version 19041 of Windows 10 Pro 64-bit. Thank you WaterCat.

Why this information is NOT available under Computer Properties like in Windows 7 and earlier beats me.
