Cant Find System Files After Update

Recently after i updated win 10 I found I had 12 GB of system files to delete. But when I checked today i only see 1GB to delete. Where did all the system files go? Where do i find them to delete them?

You don't say what version of windows or what update. In newer versions
windows will automatically delete some updates after about 10 days.
Got to settings/storage to see what is still there.

Was that a Feature Update, such as the update to version 1903?

If by 'checking' for 'system files' you mean using Disk Clean-up and clicking the 'Clean up system files' button (or its equivalent in the Storage part of Settings) then thomaseg1 has given you the answer. The Windows.old folder which would allow you to go back to your previous version is automatically deleted after 10 days. That would typically be about 12GB.

No need, sound like Windows has already done it for you.

    Its win 10 1903.

But you dont understand. Before the update i had 398gb free storage. After the update last week I had 386gb with 12gb install files. Yesterday disk cleanup says I still have 386gb free storage but 0gb install files. Hows that possible? how do i delete these hidden install files?

I seen W10 do funny things with free space after updates. Check the Download folder inside the SoftwareDistribution folder in Windows. Mine in the picture below shows 247 MB, if your shows 10 GB, and it might, then those are the files you are looking for. You can safely delete the files and folders inside the Download folder and regain the GBs. If you do this, make sure the Windows update service is not running before deleting the files.

Empty the Recycle Bin as the files are probably still in there and Windows counts them as used storage space until deleted forever.
