    Start Menu Language Won't Change

    Hi y'all

I recently decided to change my entire PC display language to English, since I'm not a native it's good for practicing purposes, as well as for getting support online (most guides and tutorials are in English).

I changed the display language in the Settings, changed the region to United States, both in Settings and Control Panel > System Locale. I already ran Windows 10 OOBE and choose English as well.

Yet I couldn't manage to change the Start Menu language. When I click the Windows icon, it displays some news and apps in my original display language, which is Portuguese. Some apps like the Recycle Bin is still called "Lixeira", in Portuguese, as you can see in the screenshot bellow.

    How can I change this?

Is this system file? My Recycle bin isn't listed as desktop app. Could be you have some third party app installed?

Yes, it is a system program, it is the default Windows recycle bin. I don't have any additional software with this name or function replacing the default recycle bin.

    No one have any clue?

I also noticed other things that didn't translate properly, for example the descriptions of Windows Updates, when in the update window inside the Settings, while it's downloading the updates, the descriptions are all in Portuguese, while the rest is in English

    Hi @Hoppe

Changing display language always causes that issue.

AFAIK, you have to clean install OS in desired language.
It's the only way and of course, you should first backup your files and reinstall all your apps and settings.

    Clean Install Windows 10

IMO, installing an OS in its native language (English) helps you understand better PC & OS terminology, as you've mentioned. Then, you may change the display language to...whatever, ignoring untranslated parts.

PS: There will be no activation issue installing the same edition (Home, Pro etc.) in another language.

No, it does not when done with Sysprep as told in this post: Your files, settings, apps can't be kept problem...

I tested this today, installing Windows 10 version 1903 on two Hyper-V virtual machines in both my native languages, Finnish and Swedish. I then installed English language pack, run Sysprep, and selected English as system language in OOBE.

Both virtual machines were completely changed to English. It's a mystery to me why you still have some elements in Portuguese.

    You could try the following.

First, completely remove Portuguese language from Windows (tutorial). Restart computer.

When restarted, add Portuguese keyboard to English display language if you still need it (tutorial). Do not in any case add Portuguese language, just the keyboard!

Get the English Windows 10 ISO (tutorial), and perform a repair install using it (tutorial).

The above should fix your issue.

Thank you @Kari! I didn't know about "Sysprep" method.
I've just tested it (using Greeks) and works fine! No untranslated parts but...about 7 GB has been added to OS(C:) partition and I cannot find where. Is it normal?

If I remember well, in past, only a repair install (in another language) did not fix that issue.

    Thanks again!

    ...Update...
Finally, I've found where 7GB goes to: "Reserved Storage" which was installed after "Sysprep" use (my OS comes from 1809 upgrade so, there was no reserved space).
