    Windows 10 re-brand?

According to an advisor on the Microsoft Community ask section they said to me that after Windows 8 expires or 8.1 expires Windows 10 would be re-branded to just Windows. Does anyone else know if this is accurate?

I’ve heard the same; once Windows 8.1 ‘expires’ & as Windows 10 will be an ongoing ‘concern’ they’ll rebrand it to Windows & it’ll be regular updates but no future version like 11, 12 etc.

Thanks, that's what I thought I heard correctly from the advisor personally I think its a good idea just having Windows with continuous twice-per year updates.

What about the kernel itself will that stay v10.x.x?

That’s a good question to which I have no answer, eventually MS would have to come up with a new way to show versions other than 10.x.x.

Do you know if there are any plans to update the Windows interface in the future? I've heard rumours that Microsoft were apparently creating some C-Shell which they if heard correctly hoped to make Windows more universal across platforms if Windows 10 gets re-branded like we all heard will Microsoft if it is in development update the interface with the new shell for us already active users of Windows?

As MS have dropped their Windows phone supporting that will be a no- go, however they still may wish to produce apps which are compatible with other OS.
Once support for Windows 8.1 reaches end of life Windows 10 will supposedly be rebranded to just Windows.

This makes a lot of sense and something I've said they may do in the past. I hope they actually do it.

Branding matters. If they could successfully phase out 'Microsoft' itself as a brand it might be a good thing.
