    Files hash info

    Hi

i have two identical files, except the hash is different, I need to copy the hash information from one file to the other. Is this possible ..? And if so how.

    thanks

I suggest you verify whether the files really are identical. Generate different hashes- as f14tomcat suggests below..

What convinces you the hash value computed is embedded in the file?

Windows has a built in hash generator.

All you have to do is delete the second file, make a copy of the first file than you will have 2 files with identical hash.

Let me understand.... you're trying to make 2 dissimilar files appear to be the same by replicating the hash values?

Not exactly.......the two files are identical except for the hash......a program I have refuses to accept the replacement file as the hash is different

Don't think it is possible to have 2 files with the same hash if the files a different in any kind. That's the main proposal of a hash grant that a file is what it claims to be by verifying it's hash.

Ok. Even though the content may appear identical, data you cannot see makes them different. Could be date, could be the file signature, any number of things that are put in place for security. That is the whole purpose in the hash. The hash is calculated, it is not stored in the file. You couldn't force the hash value anyway.
