    Windows 10 v1903 vs 1809?

I had read many issues on here and from other sources that 1809 was a disaster at the beginning. As a matter of fact, some corporations chose to skip deploying 1809.

Maybe its too early to ask, but how stable is 1903 compared to 1809?

It's pretty normal to read things like that but not knowing the background of what's going on is important to know.

In my experience, I have 3 computers that are 7 years old and on the 17th updated from 1809 to 1903 w/o any issues.
--- The 1809 updates happened "naturally"
--- When I was notified 1903 is ready to be installed, I delayed them for 1 day so I could complete what I had to do
--- The next day each one installed and updated to 1903 and they run perfectly
I've done 2 others where I volunteer and both users are happy.

Although I know how to download and install them myself, I prefer letting my Windows Updates happen "naturally".
    --- So easy to do.

EDIT: Well I should include this also: I create system image backups ahead of time.

Here's the info from Reliablility Monitor for 1903 from my Production PC, which I use every day for 6 hours or more, 7 days a week. This machine takes a powerful beating and I use it hard (and I'd like to think well). Here's what Reliability Monitor says about this machine going back to May 31, the day I forcibly upgraded from 1809 to 1903 on this machine, using the Update Assistant at the Download Windows 10 page (to use it, click the "Update now" button at the top of that page):

Note that my reliability index is at a perfect 10. I've had three days with application failures and/or Windows failures over the 19-day period I've been running 1903. Errors occurred on Days 1, 2 and 7 in the graph.
Day 1 includes two IAStorDataMgrSvc.exe errors (relates to Intel RST, fixed by installing new drivers), it also shows a Firefox failure that recurs the next day but not since (two new versions since then anyway)
    Day 2 another Firefox failure
Day 7 Internet Explorer failure (don't use this very often, happens from time to time)
only serious error occurred this day: mouse and keyboard froze became unavailable so I had to forcibly reboot
not sure what caused this, but it hasn't happened for the past 12 days

    HTH,

1809 was actually quite stable at launch, I found it to be one of the most polished and bug free launches for a new version (quite a relief after the 'rough and ready' initial launch for 1803). Then the one BIG (but rare) bug was found, leading to its withdrawal and relaunch. 1809's reputation never recovered from that, however stable the later builds were.

I find 1903 to be as stable as 1809 was at its relaunch (without any 'big' bug ).

Oh no! My desktop this morning says that I can "click here" for 1903. NOOOOOOOOOO!

Now, I will certainly NOT click. But does that mean I'm just staving off doom? Will it eventually force 1903 upon me even without my clicking?

    Hi,
Nope but if you do want to do 1903 make it easier and download the iso or esd file before this will shave a lot of time off the install time.
Mount either one and kick back and wait
Make a system image too before attempting the install.

Haven't you read the replies? There was not one reply that stated they had problems with either 1809 or the new 1903.
Both versions were/are very stable and have not had any reports of problems.
If you truly want to run a safe and secure computer then the #1 step is keeping the operating system up to date.

Yes it will eventually force it on you. That will happen a month or so before your current version reaches the end of its supported life. That's May 12, 2020 for 1809.

Until then, you can ignore 'Download and install now' for as long as you want.

    Hi,
All prior builds 1809-1803 even 1709 get the same security fixes as 1903 gets.
1903 is a features update meaning packing more stuff in it.

The Only security add on in 1903 is more push for users to use a MS account and not local accounts.
