I know this may seem a silly question to you guys but what's the difference between 8 and 8.1? Service pack?
It is considered a new edition. It had major changes in the kernel. More choices of configuration as well.

If I remember right, Longhorn was a pre-release code name for Vista.

Thanks. 8 completely passed me by. Didn't like what I saw. Tried it very briefly on a friends laptop and that didn't help. Never bothered with it again.

7 for me although I did love XP for a long time. My brief flirtation with 8 put me off it forever.

My favorite is Win 7 although Win 8 is a close second since it's really more or less 7 with the Metro stuff tacked on.

    Win8.1.1 / Win10

Voted for 8, but I like 8.1 better.
Liked them all from Win3 onwards.
After a few company spread viruses XP fell to the bottom of my list, was very happy to remove it from my machine.

Definitely Windows 8. I found Windows already a great OS, but Windows 8 is a relief!
