Correct Choice to Disable Windows Error Reporting in gpedit.

Hello all, In gpedit, I see two locations to deal with Windows Error Reporting.

Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Error Reporting:
    Disable Windows Error Reporting

    and

Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System\Internet Communication Management > Internet Communication settings:
    Turn off Windows Error Reporting

Why two, and which, if not both, would be the correct choice?

Hello DirtDart, and welcome to Ten Forums.

Usually, the first policy will be sufficient to disable Windows Error Reporting.

    Thanks Brink.

For the sake of knowledge, what's the purpose of this policy in /System?

It gathers information from hardware & software problems and reports them to Microsoft.

Understood, but why are there two separate locations to disable reporting? I mean if one alone disables the reporting, then why is there another location to do the same thing?

I'm not sure why there's two separate policies that seem to effectively perform the same function.

For the record, you can not disable it completelly, you merely disable error reporting to Microsoft, but windows error reporting (WerFault.exe) will always run, when there is a problem, like crashing software.

My firewall is working overtime blocking and logging connection request to MS servers. Reducing the phoning home: That's really all I'm trying to accomplish.

Even Microsoft.Photos.exe makes relentless attempts to 3 different Microsoft IPs. At least 60 times a minute and sometimes twice within a single second.

I wish there was a way Microsoft would allow us to pick and choose what software is included with our version of Windows before we download it. I would choose not to have Defender and a bunch of other crap that is useless.

Other than by firewall, is there really any way to disable this?
