OneDrive Sync altered many desktop files Solved

    Yes, Brink:

I am able to get any file/folder on my PC individually to synch with my OneDrive by adding it to my local OneDrive directory-essentially by dragging it there. Or by Uploading from my online OneDrive

What I am still unable to do is that one or two step Backup of Protected Folders--Desktop --Documents -- Pictures--as described in this tutorial:

Turn On or Off Folder Protection with OneDrive in Windows 10

That snapshot I posted above of my Backup Tab-->Manage backup should show this. The rectangles Documents and Desktop are inactive and can't be selected

That way I can use OneDrive as my Backup program

I may have messed the program up somewhat on Friday when my desktop files were being replaced by OneDrive files--rather than merely synching..And I frantically deleted/ changed some OneDrive folders to stop this..

I'm wondering if there's away I can get that Backup functionality back but without having my local files/folders replaced..just uploaded?

My apologies for my difficulty in explaining all this..

I'm not sure why it's not allowing you to select Desktop or Documents in OneDrive folder protection unless something is blocking it.

As a test, are you able to use the other sync method I mentioned below to sync them to OneDrive without having to move the folders? This is basically just a workaround to do the same.

I would either have to move the source folder to the local OneDrive directory or copy and paste it to the local OneDrive directory to synch it.

The problem with the latter is that there'd now be two local folders not synching with one another. Only the local OneDrive is synching with the online OneDrive.

I've seen pictures you've posted (in some tutorial above?) with right-click menu giving option to synch with OneDrive. But my right click menus do not have such an option

Nar, no need to move the folder at all.

That tutorial will only create a symbolic link of it in your OneDrive folder so it will sync.

    Hello again, Brink:

I finally managed to get my Documents directory to synch with OneDrive.

What was blocking that was a file: which is a OneNote file, which needed to be moved from my Documents to OneDrive. That file can never synch, unless it's in the OneDrive directory

The files in my now synching Documents folder now show a somewhat different location when I go to the Properties. It is: Users\Username\OneDrive\Documents instead of Users\Username\Documents
as it was when not synching. I'm assuming this path is as it should be?

I'm not synching my Desktop this time around. Was able to exclude that via settings.

I may have some further questions for you about what happens if I should decide to no longer use OneDrive as my backup program..and what then happens to my online OneDrive storage. But if that should come up, I'll simply ask in another thread. Or if i have further issues or questions

Thank you so kindly, Brink for bearing with me through all this

    Great news Eliuri.

The path depends on what method you used to sync the Documents folder with OneDrive.
