    any update here?
same thing with this rule, thinking desktop is an app running in full screen mode..
I will ask Nvidia and a few others soon. If you could list your system specs and software & apps running in the bacgkround (specifically if you have Nvidia Geforce Experience running) it will help a lot when I start inquiring. In the meantime you can disable the rule for fullscreen apps and Windows won't poke you.

Ok, it's hard to find solutions for this as it's not widely broad. Nvidia hasn't responded to me yet either. But a new GFE update is out to the public (3.19.0.107). Can you test and see if you're still seeing this issue after the update?

True, though the update did not fix it, nor was it even mentioned on the change log.

Someone in NVIDIA forum have mentioned the below:

I nailed this problem down to Nvidia's in-game overlay. If it's enabled, it triggers focus assist, if it's disabled, everything works as it should. Someone has to fix this, but not sure whether it should be Microsoft or Nvidia.

I registered just to say, I have the exact same issue to the "T" as Faith described in the original post. I too have Nvidia and the focus assist issue only came into being with 1903. Personally, I thought the focus assist worked great in 1809. Thanks, Katlani for the update, it in a weird way I guess it makes sense

Backstory: I thought it was an issue that was bugged from my 1809 to 1903 upgrade. So I formatted my system and started fresh only to discover that the "feature" lol returned. I disabled the full screen switch that was shown in a screenshot earlier in this thread. Hopefully that will produce desired results.

At this point, just glad to know it isn't just me.

Hi just registered to say thanks and i was having the same issue and it is the Nvidia Geforce Experience In game overlay that is causing the problem. If you're still experiencing this problem; go into Geforce Experience click the cog by your username in the top right of the program, then follow the page down until you see IN-GAME OVERLAY then just toggle it off. Go back to your desktop and assist mode will stop blocking your notifications when you're going absolutely nothing.

This seems to be resolved post GeForce Experience 3.20 auto update that was just installed on my end.
Unsure exactly which of the below relates to it, but highlighting one that i particularity like.

What’s New in GeForce Experience 3.20

Apply Freestyle Game Filter for 350 more games
Press [Alt+F3] to apply post-processing filters to your games while you play. Freestyle is now supported in 350 more games, including Wolfenstein: Youngblood, No Man’s Sky, Gears 5, Resident Evil 2, and F1 2019. We also added a new improved sharpen filter so you can further enhance the details of your games.

    Newly Optimized Games
GeForce Experience takes the hassle out of PC gaming by configuring your game’s graphics settings for you. To optimize your game, go to the Games Tab, click on the game tile, and hit “Optimize.” The following games are now supported: Wolfenstein Youngblood, Dota Underlords, F1 2019, The Sinking City, BATTALION 1944, Gloomhaven, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, Pathologic 2, Rune 2, Observation, Beyond Two Souls, Heavy Rain, DEAD OR ALIVE Xtreme Venus Vacation, Blood of Steel, and Attack on Titan 2.

    Housekeeping
    • Reduced number of background processes and memory footprint by consolidating processes. This also reduces the chances of encountering a “Something went wrong” error.
    • Improved Facebook Live streaming security protocol. Now updated to Secure RTMP (RTMPS).
    • Removed upload to Facebook due to deprecation of partner APIs.
    • Broadcast to Twitch now requires 2 factor authentication.

    Squashed bugs!
    • Fixed an issue where the game is minimized when enabling the in-game overlay
    • Fixed an issue where audio was cut off from the end of an Instant Replay recording
    • Fixed an issue where FPS counter appeared in the Start Menu after upgrading to Windows 10
    • Various performance and stability improvements
    • Patched to the latest NVIDIA software security updates.

Edit: Not so sure then again, since system went back into Focus Assist mode after a few minutes, oh well.

Windows pushed 1903 on me yesterday and this has been bugging me all day. When I would watch a video in full screen, I would have that notification. I did a search and this was the top result, but I didn't find a solution. I don't want to turn off focus assist in full screen because I don't want to be bothered by notifications when in full screen apps. Then I discovered that instead of clicking the slider to turn it on/off, if you click the whole selection, it will open a new page where you can change the focus level and there will be a check box for "Show a notification in action center when focus assist is turned on automatically," which is enabled by default. Uncheck that box and the annoying message goes away after exiting full screen apps. I had been assuming clicking the selection was the same as clicking the slider. This is what happens when you use a UI designed for fat fingered touch screen on a desktop where you use a keyboard and mouse.

It's not as if I care about that auto message as much as the fact that Focus Assist turns on even when on desktop, due to this conflict with Nvidia Geforce Experience.

You may just alternatively disable the in game overlay to avoid the conflict thats mentioned here, and in the Nvidia forums.
