1903 Crashes on Restart... Not on Cold Start

Just received the WU 1903 update on an Asus Zenbook laptop. During each reboot the Asus locked up on its boot screen. The Asus logo appeared, but not the circling balls. Eventually it timed out to a black screen of death. Forcibly powering off, and then restarting continued the installer progress. After doing this for 3 installation reboots, the 1903 install completed "successfully".

However... when I now exit from W10 with "Restart" the Asus boot screen continues to fail after several minutes. Notably though, if I shutdown normally, the Asus starts without issue and reaches the login screen in about 8 seconds.

Why is restart different? And what can be done? I'm not fond of forcibly powering off. Thanks!

Telos, I wonder if the difference may be the Fast Boot setting in Windows. For now, I would not turn that off if it is on, because doing so may cause a power on to behave the same as a restart, and that is obviously not what you want.

See info on Fast Boot here:

Turn On or Off Fast Startup in Windows 10

In the meantime, try booting to safe mode to see if that is successful on restarts as well as from a cold boot. You can also try disabling items in startup to see if anything there is causing the difficulty.

Thanks for those pointers. I'll have access to the laptop tomorrow and I'll check all that out.
