    Windows 10 S Mode

I need opinions on Windows 10 S Mode

A friend at our senior center was told she should buy a Windows 10 S Mode instead of upgrading her Windows 7 Home to Windows 10 Home.
--- She knows I'll be glad to upgrade her Windows 7 Home to Windows 10 Home.

    I went through https://www.howtogeek.com/354057/wha...-10-in-s-mode/.

My friend is a simple computer user but she will want to use Google Chrome as she has on her Windows 7 computer and due to past experience, when someone tells me they don't do anything on their computer that sends me a signal of go with an average computer.
--- She doesn't understand the limits of S Mode so she has a decision to make.
--- Personally I believe she should go with Windows 10 Home if she's going to buy a new computer.

I know that isn't much to go by at this point but I need opinions on the value of an S Mode laptop if you can please.

S Mode is not for me, but it may be appropriate for your friend. You could upgrade 7 Home to 10 Home, make a system image (so you can go back) then switch it to S Mode...

Starting with Windows 10 version 1803, you can Enable S mode on supported Windows editions.
It is not well publicized yet but you can set up S mode in PRO and Home...
Enable S mode in Windows 10

Alternatively, a less dramatic precaution is to set 10 Home to only allow apps to be installed from the Store.

Thanks Bree, I learned a few more things from what you posted. My friend told me she'll let me know what she decides on this weekend.

Whilst S mode has limits, it can be good for those with lesser skills particularly if peerson is click happy. I had a click happy relative who got pc infected on a regular basis. I installed 10S mode, and only gave relative access to a standard account. He was able to surf, email, and use Office. That met his needs and rate of malware infections has dropped to SFA.

(BTW I refuse to suggest lesser skills is age related as many "experts" here are heading towards their twilight years).

Thanks cereberus, I have my friends laptop and it was easy to find out that someone has been helping her and that someone shouldn't have been the one to recommend what she's been doing. To make a long story short, the computer is a disaster.

If she tells me she wants to go with S mode, I'm going to discourage her from doing so.
--- I can tell it won't suit her and if she wants her computer to run like new, that's the way to go.
--- Upgrading to Windows 10 will also happen because that is my intent.

Thanks to you & Bree's posts, I picked up on S mode better as it enhanced what I've read about it and S mode will not be for her.
