    ms-settings windows not scaling properly

I have been having this issue for quite some time. I have changed display driver, scaling methods, windows display settings. The only way I have found to fix it is to revert scaling to 100% in windows display settings. I am using a 4k monitor. I also have issues with the start menu and taskbar context menus floating. Everything works ok when I first log in. Than after half an hour or so, it seems like explorer refreshes, and it all goes to hell. Is there a way to get this to scale properly? - Thanks

Hi, presumably your desktop and taskbar disappear, then return after a couple of seconds?

If so, you will see from your Reliability History that file explorer has crashed. If you look at the detail of that, you may get a clue to what that relates to.

The most likely cause is a 3rd party program with hooks into explorer. Identifying this may be possible as above, or by elimination.

If you do a clean boot, does this still happen?
Similarly if you create a new user for test purposes and log in as that user?

Other possibilities include items added in your context menu (see Shellexview, free, which will help to disable a lot of these).

Hey, thank you for the suggestions. I ended up fixing it, finally. Unfortunately I am not sure what fixed it as I tried several different things.

I cleaned up my context menu like you suggested. I used a few other Nirsoft utilities. I reset a bunch of compatibility settings back to default. I also ran a powershell command which reset certain scaling settings to default values.

I think that last one might have done the trick, but hard to say.

Well done.. certainly an odd one.

Best now to make sure you've a current disk image (e.g. Macrium Reflect - free) and then periodically update it.
