How to download a PDF file.

My default PDF programs is Nitro Pro 12. I need to know how to get statements from my bank onto my PC. I have done this for years on my Windows 7 PC.

Normally on Windows 7, I open the file and drag the cursor over the screen and I get a popup that looks as this image:

How to download a PDF file.-bank1.jpg

Once I click as shown on the image, I get another popup as below:

How to download a PDF file.-bank2.jpg

Here I would click on the "Allow" button and whole file will open and lets me save it to my PC.

On Windows 10 I do NOT get anything like that.

How do I download a PDF file using IE or Edge on Windows 10??

What is your current default pdf reader?

I assume your description of dragging a cursor relates to Nitro pdf. Do you have that installed on Win 10?

Downloading a file is like downloading any file. Having it open so you can view it is another matter.

On Windows 10 I do NOT get anything like that.
-- when you click to download the statement? A screenshot might help.

Could you have a pop-up blocker stopping this? (Usually there's a warning or option dialogue if so).

    Here I'm using FF:

You can see the Download links on my bank page; I've clicked one, and I have FF configured to save or open it with my default pdf reader, Sumatra.

There's also a View option on the bank page- if I click that, the statement opens in a new FF tab- I have an appropriate extension installed.

Here's Edge: when I click on the Download link it opens a new tab with these options:

Clicking Open there opens it in Sumatra.

There's also a View option on the bank page- if I click that, the statement opens in a child window of Edge.

Set Nitro PDF as your Default PDF handler in Control Panel, Default Programs.
Click on Set your default programs.
Click on Chose apps by file type.
    Scroll down to .pdf.
Click on the icon in the 2nd column then select Nitro PDF. Mine is set to Adobe PDF Reader.

For Edge, in Settings under Show definitions inline for, uncheck PDF. You will be prompted to save each PDF file.

You can open pdf files in common browsers like Chrome & Edge. I also use Adobe Acrobat Reader (free).

When I installed Nitro PDF I set it as the default pdf handler. It is the ONLY pdf program I have installed.

When I said drag the cursor over a part of the screen, that I what I mean. Such as on the first image, I drag over that part of the screen and it presents options for me. I don't know how to make that any clearer.

Thank you very much for your answer and clarification.

Never seen anything like that. Presume it's a function of Nitro pdf. Suggest you post a video to illustrate from where you're dragging, what you're dragging, and to where.

If it's application specific, it's not a general Windows question, and needs someone who has that installed to help. Or perhaps Nitro pdf has a forum.

The icon in your 1st post highighted with a red arrow is a Nitro icon.

I need to slap myself it was so simple.

After selecting the pdf file I wanted, all I had to do was look. At the top right of the page this can be seen:

Piece of cake when you pay attention. It is also easier than how it is done in windows 7.
