I need permission to modify or edit /System32 even though I am Admin

For some infuriating reason, I cannot edit or modify the /System32 folder on my PC. I am an admin, and I even created an entirely new user with admin permissions. I need to replace msvcp120.dll with a new copy because an installer for a game that I am trying to install but when I run the installer, says that msvcp120.dll is missing even though when I look in /System32 its there. This has never happened to me before but the only recent changes I made to my PC is having my drivers updated using AMD's auto driver update program.

I am pretty sure that this issue is related to me and not the game's installer itself, so if anyone can, please help me out.

    Thanks.

Hi, for example, you should get a prompt like this if trying to copy a file to that folder:
I need permission to modify or edit /System32 even though I am Admin-snap-2019-06-06-09.43.20.png

    Do you see that?

Have you perhaps turned UAC off completely?

When I click "Continue", it then says that I do not have permission.
I even modified the permissions of the folder from the security tab in the folder properties.

You could try Tweaking.com's free cautious repair tool, observing all the stages meant to protect you, and select only the appropriate repairs related to permissions.

Before that, please confirm simply copying a txt file into it is impossible, rather than replacing a system file.

Further, to replace a system file, you will need to e.g. boot to a command prompt, or use a live boot disk.

Note the comments and warnings here:
How to gain full control over the system32 folder?

I'm not sure what you mean by cimply and UAC. I'm not a complete PC nerd so I do not know about a lot of terms. I'm only a little bit knowledgable about PC stuff.

This error means you don't have the correct version of Visual C++ Redistributable installed. Different games need different versions (sometimes more than one version) depending how they were built and there isn't really an easy way to tell which.

You don't need to fiddle with System32 and trying to copy and replace .dlls will just make things worse. You need to install the correct version - google the name of the game and msvcp120 if the installer doesn't install it automatically.

Alternatively (and probably the easiest) is to just install all different versions from here which will fix it.

    ...Thank freaking god.
That could mean that the driver update software could have something to do with the issue if I already had the correct version...

Maybe if the game was installed and working before. IDK why it would but anything is possible.

Problem is there are both 32 and 64 bit versions from 2002, 2003, 2005, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2019 and later version do not include older versions. You may need any combination (although most likely not the oldest or newest) and could require 32bit even if you have 64 bit Windows.

You could look in programs and features and re-install what you had before (you can download them from Microsoft but not all from the same page unfortunately) or just use the combo installer from the link above. It is what I do as it is easier than tracking down 16 different versions and installing them all.

You may end up with some you don't need but they are tiny (just a few MB) and once installed will work for all games (and other programs) so you gon't have to worry about it again.

Well the installer works now so that's settled. Thanks for the help and for making this infinitely easier.

I would edit my post and mask it as "solved", but it doesn't appear that I can actually edit it... I think in some point within the last few hours a moderator marked me to not need approved messages since I can edit my messages up to 20 minutes ago? Sorry mods but you'll have to mark my post as "solved" for me haha.
