Win10 1903: Opening lid only displays "black" screen

Since updating to 1903 almost two weeks ago ... when opening the lid of my HP laptop it frequently is only displaying a "near-black" screen - similar to not "waking up" from sleep mode. This happens at least 80% of the time but not always. Pressing any key or combination of keys does not help. So I eventually give up and restart - which always fixes the problem.

I have checked my sleep settings and they're unchanged - "do nothing" is selected for "when I close the lid" for when on battery or plugged-in. I normally select "sleep" when leaving my PC.

Has anyone else had this problem - and is there a fix (other than restarting my PC)? Thx, Rob

It is a GPU problem with your Laptop mot able to properly run 1903. Right now your only choice is to roll back to 1803 or 1809.

Thanks for that tip!! I have updated the graphics driver and rebooted - all good now - we'll see how it goes for the next few days when opening the lid.

It's now been over 24hrs since the graphics driver was updated and so far the problem has not recurred! Now marking it solved.

So this problem has been marked as solved. S'good.

But the core problem is still open.
That core problem is "something breaks every time MS releases a new version/update that no one needs, no one wants, and no one cares".

    Mark that problem "not solved".
