How can I enter "male" symbol using my Alt keyboard [w/o warnings!]

    Hello

How can I enter the "male" symbol using my alt keyboard?
If I hold down the Alt key and then hit 12 on my numberic characters on extended keyboard it appears, but then my text editor moans:
"Warning: Some characters cannont be converted to code page 1252 (ANSI - Latin I). Do you want to save anyway?"

Yes I could save but I don't want that message every time I try to save my text file and also is there not a better way of saving?

    Cheers

    J

You are given the warning because ANSI code pages do not support that character. If you proceeded with the save the character would be lost. To save the file you need to save it as Unicode, usually UTF-8 would be preferred. Unicode was designed for such problems. It can potentially support about 1 million different characters but not that many have currently been assigned.

As you have not told us what editor you are using I can't tell you how to save the file as Unicode. Usually the option will be in the save as dialog.

You mean these symbols ♂♀ ?

If you mean Alt+11 or 12. You should press the numpad keys on your right side of the keyboard. If you use the number keys above the letters of your keyboard then it will give like a warning beep and those symbols won't be inputted.
