Web Site text copied to Clipboard won't paste.

A web site I use has an option to copy to clipboard. If I copy and press Win key + V the Clipboard opens and the copied item is there, but if I then try to paste into a file the paste option is greyed out. and I cannot paste. Any ideas please?

Open "WordPad" (yes its still there) at least in mine.
try pasting it there. Open office, libre office
    notepad is mainly for text.
Alternative: return to web page..choose print and print to pdf.

Many thanks. Paste greyed out in Word Pad as well. I don't really understand this. However, I have printed to .pdf and saved and that worked. I didn't know I could do that so thanks.

I would quite like to know what is happening with the Clipboard.

What is a "Documents" file? Do you mean a file paste into a file you are creating in your Documents folder? If so, what type of file? Is it a .txt file, a Word .doc or .docx file, a rich text .rtf file? What program are you using to open this file that you are then trying to paste into?

I have been having a senior moment here. I have been trying to paste directly into a folder here where Paste is greyed out. Opening a Word document allows me to paste into the document and that works as it should. I apologise for being so silly although I don't seem to be able to paste into WordPad but that doesn't matter. I have however learned one thing and that is that I can print to a .pdf file.

    Thanks for your help.

    Glad you are set.

I just tested WordPad and I can paste into it so that should work for you too.

When something is copied to the clipboard an identification of the type of data is included. This might be be some type of image or text or even a private type. When an application is requested to paste this data it will check the type to see if it is compatible. If it is the paste will proceed. If it is not, such as attempting to copy an image into a simple text editor like notepad, the past will not be completed. If the request was made with a menu it will typically be greyed out. This tells the use the data is not compatible.

Much depends on exactly what was copied to the clipboard.
