Cortana Search box settings how to get it to do what I want

On the whole I quite like Windows 10, but there is one thing I have hated since first opening it up and that is the wretched Cortana Search box on the desktop. How do I get back the windows 7 search box functionality where it would only search for things on the computer itself? I have spent literally hours online searching for a solution and cannot find one which I can apply to this computer - I've done all the recommended stuff like clicking on the Cortana settings, and clicking the notebook icon which brings me to nothing useful. All I want is a search box that will find me files on my computer and behave like the search box did on windows 7 i.e. to ignore the internet when it is searching without having to make any additional selections. I'd even download a 'safe' 3rd party application to get it. If I want to search the internet I'll fire up Chrome and use Google all I actually want is a search box that will find me files on the actual computer itself.

Additionally, if I have to keep this rotten Cortana thing on the screen and it does end up having to search the internet is there anyway of it opening it's searches with Google and not that dreadful Bing!

The one thing that drove me nuts with Windows 10 was this Cortana thing - it still sits there taking up huge amounts of space on the taskbar rather than being under the start menu click. I don't like it and I certainly don't want it, it doesn't behave or do what I want and it just sits there taking up space. I am not interested in cross device performance or making everything connect I don't need it and I don't want it. I really liked the performance and behaviour of the Windows 7 search box on the start menu - how do I get it back please?
