PC waking up by itself from sleep

Since installing the 1903 update (running W10 Pro), I've noticed on several occasions that my PC has turned itself on from sleep...

I've done some investigating and found the following is waking up the PC:

    Attachment 235058

What is "Universal Orchestrator Idle Start" exactly and what can I do to prevent this from happening?

    Go to the Task Scheduler.
    Double-click Task Scheduler Library.
    Expand Microsoft.
    Expand Windows.
    Select UpdateOrchestrator.
    Select Properties.
    Select Conditions.
Under Power options, uncheck "Wake the computer to run this task".

Note: On my computers, I see that this option is not turned on by default.

I followed your instructions, but I'm asked for login info when I want to apply the change by clicking on OK:

Let me look into this further. My information came from a a Microsoft forum, but I'm starting to think that the information there may not have been reliable. At the very least, it is incomplete, as I'm seeing the exact same thing.

It's almost 3:00 AM where I am so it will only be later in the day before I look at this closer, but I'll let you know if I have any further luck.

Okay, couldn't help myself. Had to take one more try on this and I think I may have found something. First see if this is set to automatically wake your system. If so, try turning it off:

If that still does not, see if this has anything worthwhile:

Maintenance was already off. I following your link and started with disabling the wake timers:

    Attachment 235143

That did the trick. PC did not wake up. Enabled them again to test and went to check back later, PC was awake again...

I think that setting must have been enabled during the upgrade or else something has changed in 1903. Either way, only I can wake up the PC.

    Thanks for your help!

That's very interesting. I noticed that in my settings, wake timers were not disabled, yet my system never wakes up on its own. Then I remembered seeing something in my BIOS.....

At the moment, my BIOS is configured to allow wake up events controlled by the BIOS. The other option is "Operating System".

I just changed the setting now. I'll see if that causes my system to automatically wake up.

Interestingly enough, my backup software has an option to automatically wake up the system to perform backups but that never worked. I'll bet it is this BIOS setting that would allow it to work. For me the next question would be what sleep levels this will allow Windows to wake from.

    Time for some experimentation.

    After some quick experimentation...

Wake Timers in Windows seem to be able to wake up the system after selecting "Sleep" or "Hibernate", but not "Shutdown".

Wake on LAN works after "Shutdown", but not "Sleep" or "Hibernate".

So I can have the system wake up via wake timers OR Wake on LAN, but not both.

Same problem. Tried literally everything, even changed options with PStools. No result.

I have this exact same issue. Disabling wake from sleep completely works, but sabotages my automatic once-a-week nightly backup.
I also get the problem that I can not disable the wake from sleep in the task, also wants a username/password, but doesn't accept any.

This only started with 1903, but I found people mentioning this, and the password issue, for years already.

    Possible solution found:
PowerRun v1.3 (Run with highest privileges)

This allows you to run taskschd.msc as "system" user, which WILL allow you to uncheck the "Wake from sleep to execute this task" option.

So hopefully this will disable this nightly terror without loss of functionality.
