    Please do not shoot the messenger. I merely want to point out the description of the Windows Service you are considering disabling or already have. There are importation functions it performs. Only want you to be aware, then you can make an informed decision.

    Provides three management services: Catalog Database Service, which confirms the signatures of Windows files and allows new programs to be installed; Protected Root Service, which adds and removes Trusted Root Certification Authority certificates from this computer; and Automatic Root Certificate Update Service, which retrieves root certificates from Windows Update and enable scenarios such as SSL. If this service is stopped, these management services will not function properly. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start.

    Yes that is why I did not disable. I only see the vss errors ocassionally and can live with them until a fix is found. I sure don't want to break something else. System runs fine and eventually either Microsoft will fix or someone will figure it out. Still been thinking about a clean install but waiting till 1903 matures a bit more.

    Hi Humbird. I was with a friend yesterday when his computer got the update to 1903.

    Guess what?

    After rebooting, there they were, the VSS errors.

    Anyway, I think this VSS errors are more widespread that you imagine.

    Regards

    Yes Bo they probably are. We have to remember that windows 1903 has been a very slow rollout and there are tons of people who, I am sure don't even bother with event viewer. Maybe we will see more posts on this issue in the future. Then perhaps a Microsoft fix. Thanks for the heads up.

    OK, so if you disable cryptographic services, event viewer will probably not work first time. Then it will work because Windows will start the service and set it as a manual start. I have not seen VSS error on manual start of the service (so far)

    Let's just hope that MS doesn't call this problem « BY DESIGN »

    Well, that was short lived. VSS errors came back. But I haven't seen any material issues because of this event.

    All I did was to create a batch that when used shuts down the cryptsvc service before shutting down Windows. It is working for me. The service is still running in the background, but I shut it down because it causes an error on shutdown and restart.

    Yes, definitly its a MS-bug ! Will they ever fix it ........?
    Only the solution of Shanedh65 is solid, harmless and stable , works perfectly ............it gave me a clean eventlog , just as I had in previous 1809-version !

    Tested this solution several days , these stubborn VSS-errors are gone !
    Thanks to Shanedh65 , he is the master of this forum...........!!!!!

    Yep, that is a solution or you can use event viewer command to clear all events.
    Use as .bat file and run as admin.
    @echo offFOR /F "tokens=1,2*" %%V IN ('bcdedit') DO SET adminTest=%%V
    IF (%adminTest%)==(Access) goto noAdmin
    for /F "tokens=*" %%G in ('wevtutil.exe el') DO (call :do_clear "%%G")
    echo.
    echo goto theEnd
    :do_clear
    echo clearing %1
    wevtutil.exe cl %1
    goto :eof
    :noAdmin
    echo "" > %ProgramData%\Microsoft\Diagnosis\ETLLogs\AutoLogger\AutoLogger-Diagtrack-Listener.etl
    exit

    Here is the file
