Im beginning to think the option " system restore C " = enabled might be the cause .
I never had it enabled in 1809 ( dont used , dont use it in 1903 either ) , will disable it and the VSS-service can be disbaled in regedit ( services) also . Will see , but first have to make a Macrium-backup , before trying...........

Another cause might be the kind of hardware , configuration , etc. , this explains why most people dont have these errors at all .....!

Some crazy piece of CPU microcode specific to a few. With all the CPU/BIOS/Etc. changes in the last year and ongoing, nothing would surprise me.

I'm going to try to make this as simple of an explanation as I can. The other obvious reason this isn't being reported, is because people who have the COM+Event System displaying the correct format, which is the Local Service in the "Log On" tab having the correctly granted permissions.

Or...........they were understanding enough to do what I did, which was grant the Local Account authority for the COM+Event System service.

There are some unwilling to fix this correctly (I understand some of us feel this is Microsoft's job) but the simple matter of the truth is there are two fixes that I tested that work flawlessly (I guess just for my system only) and yet for some reason one person in this thread can't make the changes and another person is refusing to make changes to the service that fixes the problem because they reported that the services are set to what people who don't have this problem are set to.

So, essentially, there is something else going on here with certain system setups.

All in all, I wish some would chime in and confirm that one of the two fixes I outlined is working for them as well.

As I reported before , I have these two services set on "Local Account " and its still showing ( sometimes !) these two VSS-errors .
When trying your second option ; ComEvent set on "Local Service" , Im getting ; password not valid , while the password is already there ! How to fix this , so I can try your second option....?

When I made the changes to COM+ Event System, I had to stop and restart the service for the changes to take effect. It was originally set to "This Account" with a password (but didn't have "Local Service" in the field) and I switched it to Local System Account.

Then, when you mentioned you were having problems setting it to Local Service in "This Account" I switched mine to see if it could be done. Sure enough, I could switch it back and it auto-filled in the password. I still don't know what password it is or how it is generated, but I didn't have a problem with it being invalid.

I still haven't had a single VSS error with it set either way, so I honestly don't know what is going on with your system.

That is another thing I wanted to mention. I tried mine with System Restore (System Protection) on and off, and it made no difference----------I still didn't get a single VSS error after making a backup with Macrium when I applied my fix to the COM+ Event System service.

System Restore is enabled on my PC. I don't use Macrium or any other back up software. Hibernation is turned off, fast startup is off. VSS errors don't appear after every shutdown but I am getting them. Ive just checked back through Event Viewer and Ive had it the VSS errors on 5 out of 20 shutdowns. Ive purposely been watching Event Viewer to see if the errors coincide with anything. It isn't solely happening because of a System restore point has been created but It has happened because of a Restore point being created on two occasions, one automatic and one manual one that I created myself. So it may be that you only have to have System Restore set as enabled in order for the VSS errors to happen.
The errors aren't causing any issues at all for me be I just wanted to add more input to the thread
