Why does Windows Explorer sort files by date incorrectly?

I've noticed this sometimes, both in my home and in my work's Windows 10 computers. I sort files by date and they aren't really sorted out properly.
    Here's one I caught today:

That appears to be sorted perfectly by NAME, not DATE. Click the Date Created heading. Each time you click it, it will toggle ascending/descending.

They're sorted out by date, as you can see at the top, the arrow pointing down after I clicked at the top of date created column.

Ok, they look like they are sorted by name to me. The arrow is just a drop down for more options. You have to click IN the box where it says Date Created. Hard to tell exactly where you clicked. But honest, it does look like name sort.

    Hi there
could be a problem with the sort sequence if using Unicode / non Unicode etc I think space in standard ascii is X'20' so it's got to be something in the language character set you are using -- you need t pick up the correct collating sequence -- no idea which is the correct one though.

The other problem is you will get some dates like Today / Yesterday / Last week etc which could hose the entire thing up anyway.

Personally I've always found the most useful of any of the sort sequences is a bog standard sort by name but YMMV of course.

The default settings in the latest version of explorer really hoses things up anyway if you prefer the old classical layout.

Of course if you have folders with a lot of files in them then any type of sorting is going to be a problem !!!!

    Cheers

f14tomcat is correct. Despite the arrow above 'Date created' that shows the selected sort order (the option arrow is the one to the right of the column) the sort order seems to be STILL by name. Very odd, and not what I see on my systems.

Can reproduce this on my machine now. The key is that your screenshot is for the Recycle Bin. This is the ONLY folder I can find for which files remain sorted by name if you you click on the Date column. They do however get sorted correctly by Size if you click there.
