I have just installed window 10 from window 7, some of my files are still in tact but my personal files are gone?? I have already went to window.old files and check them but they are blank!! What can I do, I am in deep shit now, is there anyway I can get back my files and I don't think I have system restore.

The files are on my desktop when it was in version Window 7. It is in a account named FYP, now it is gone from my desktop. It is a MATLAB file, a programmer's program.
Actual files of just shortcuts to the files? Was your Desktop folder in the default location? You selected the "Keep files and programs" option during the upgrade right? I've done 3 upgrades, 1 from Windows 7, and didn't lose anything. My user folders were even moved to a second drive. I have a bunch of shortcuts in my desktop folder, I do not keep any files their.
System Restore points for the old OS are wiped during the upgrade to a new OS. Then new ones are saved as time goes on.

It is the actual file, not a short cut. The Keep files and programs is at default right? If so, I did choose that one. I did not change the default settings when changing versions. Why would anyone want to put delete all the files in window upgrade anyway??

Selecting not to keep them basically does a clean install instead of an upgrade. Doing that can eliminate issues from incompatible software etc. If it was an actual file it should be in the Windows.old in the desktop folder for that account.
The folder in window.old is blank. Is this the end for me?..

What just happened?? Seriously this Window 10 is giving me a heart attack. When I go search from my COMPUTER and then picked the FYP user and search for the desktop, the item is there!! It is not gone but why it is not showing at the desktop at all?!! Omg I was literally crying 5 minutes ago. Everything seems to be fine. Thank you for your time Mr. alphanumeric.
