SB2 13" i7 refuses to hibernate after sleep even after reset

This is a wierd one, any help much appreciated.

Recently my surfacebook 2 just stopped hibernating automatically after sleep. I have it set to sleep for 4 hours and then hibernate.

I`ve tried changing the hibernate settings in advanced power options, but nothing has an effect - the machine simply stays asleep until the battery drains, and hibernate never kicks in.

Hibernate still works perfectly if triggered manually.

I thought a reset/refresh would sort this out, but the issue is persistent even after resetting.

    Any ideas???

    Hi scoob101

Sleep and hibernation issues are general traced back to drivers.

If you check your Update history, near the bottom are driver updates.

Do any of the drivers updates coincide with when this started?

Do any of the software updates coincide with when this happened?

if you run powercfg -a is hibernation available?

Sleep States Available on your Windows 10 PC

At a Command Prompt (admin) type the following command
    powercfg /energy /output %userprofile%\desktop\Energy.html

This should put an Energy report on your desktop.

This link leads to a document to help understand Energy report.

    Many thanks Ken.

The Energy report found the culprit - the SD card slot has a micro SD adapter permananetly installed for extra storage, and for some reason the USB drivers are not behaving. I`ve pulled the card out and now the machine is hibernating as normal.

I`ll try another card and see if that changes anything, then I`ll take a look at the drivers.

    Thanks again for the help.
