Start Menu Sometimes Stops Working And Cortana Becomes Shorter

Hey, everybody. Right now, sometimes, I would click on the start menu and it will not open. However, Cortana still works, but the window is shorter than usual. I have to restart Windows Explorer every time that happens, but it is only a temporary fix. Can you please help me permanently fix this problem?

Also, I don't want you to tell me to reformat my computer, but a new computer, run SFC, and run DISM, because those solutions never work for me.

Hi, as a routine check please run
    chkdsk c: /scan
from an admin command or Powershell prompt (no repairs, scan only) and report summary result (pass/fail).

    First diagnostic step:
Create a new user for test purposes. Do you see the same problem when logged in as that user?

If so, it's a general Windows problem. If not, it's particular to your user profile.

That info indicates what may or may not then help.

    =====================================
    I assume you have considered:
    - using System restore - (if you're lucky and restoring completes- and the problem is recent and you have an appropriate restore point)
    - restoring an appropriate disk image. You do use disk imaging routinely as is so so often advised here, I hope?
e.g. Macrium reflect (free) + external storage for image files.

    You say:
I don't want you to tell me to reformat my computer,
    - so you must use disk imaging or other method to help you avoid doing what you evidently detest...

If you see the same problem logged in as the new user, then consider
    - an in-place upgrade repair (tutorial available) which keeps all progs, data and most settings (yes it does).

You can also consider from this:
    Windows 10 Tutorial Index
(which you can browse and search)
Re-register Start Menu in Windows 10
and other related start menu reset tutorials
Reinstall and Re-register Cortana in Windows 10 but that you have at least those two problems, suggests something more may be amiss.

What is your Windows build? It's sadly not a forum requirement to state this, so we have to ask time and again.
    Windows key + r, winver.

So, I re-registered the Start Menu in the tutorial that you link, and so far, my Start Menu has been working fine. I'm now going to mark this thread as solved.
