Just installed W10 and ANYTHING I click on puts an icon on the taskbar BUT won't maximize so I can do anything. This seems utterly rudimentary but I can't figure it out. If I mouse over the icons in the taskbar they expand to the little 1.5" x 1.5" mini window as shown in the screenshot (from another computer with W7 since I can't do it in W10). What am I missing??
What does Settings, System, Display show [if the Start menu appears so that you can select it & if the Settings window then appears]?
Does WinKey-LeftArrow / RightArrow open up the window?
What does appear & where? Something appears for you to have typed "ANYTHING I click on".
Using another computer if necessary, go to your computer / display card maker's support site to get the latest display driver [video driver] - even if it is the same as you currently have.
- You should try to get a Windows 10 driver but the chances are that a Windows 7 driver will work.
- While you are there, check for any updated bios.
- You'll probably need to use WinKey-R to run whatever you download. If the Run dialog appears, that is.
If none of this is possible because of the problem then try leaving the computer on and connected to the internet, if you can, until tomorrow so that Windows update can operate and possibly update the display driver itself.
In your next post, if you cannot take & post a screenshot then take a photo of your screen & post that.
- And perhaps a second photo showing what appears if you click on the Start button.

I'll try those suggestions tomorrow. I had W7 installed on one drive & intended to have W10 on a separate SSD but in addition to the above problem trying to get it to dual boot it's screwed W7 boot so I had to disconnect the W10 SSD then repair the W7 MBR to have a usable PC again. W10 is all trouble already! I'm leery of the same thing happening again.
From further research I think the icons in taskbar may be displaying as if I had 2 monitors (which I don't) so if I can access the "extend" screen setting it may resolve it.
Same here (sometimes) but I do have two monitors. You can easily check in Settings > System. Although you don't have two monitors, you do have two video signal sources, one in the MB and other i dedicated GPU with both drivers installed making it appear as two monitors.
Have you tried Win key + Tab combo ?
When I added Win10 as a dual boot on a Win7 computer I used the instructions at

There were no problems at all. I removed the dual boot when Win10 was officially released and just upgraded my Win7 instead.

I found mentioned elsewhere that an HDMI cable (that I FORGOT to disconnect when installed W10) could cause system to "think" there were 2 monitors so I disconnected it & booted into W10 & sure enough that resolved it (so presumably the windows in taskbar were likely being displayed "off screen" as if on a 2nd monitor). Thanks!

I used the guide in link & got the Metro choose OS GUI from W10 but upon reboot I got the old b & w style W7 choose OS screen so I think I have to set it also in W7 to (preferably) get the same (Metro) GUI each time which I've yet to do. Not that it matters all that much if I can't. Much thanks all!
W7 was already on 1st SSD, then W10 installed on 2nd SSD (w/ only that SSD connected) with W7 SSD 1st in boot order in BIOS. I prefer to keep W7 as default OS - which I set it as IN W10. Currently system boots to old style b&w W7 choose OS screen so my confusion is: can I get the Metro style (blue) choose OS screen ALL THE TIME w/ W7 set as default OS rather than W10?
