Computer keeps freezing, cutting to grey screen

Hey, I've been having a serious issue with my desktop computer for some time now. The computer will randomly, regardless of what I'm doing, cut to a grey screen, white screen, black screen, or a screen with colored stripes. I've tried clean reinstalling my GPU drivers but that hasn't worked.

Now before you write this off as a hardware problem this is the strange part, I borrowed my friends GTX 1060 and lended my GPU (an AMD 7950) to a different friend. For the few months I was using my Friends GPU my computer didn't crash once, but my other friend that was using MY gpu didn't crash at all either, which makes me think there is something else wrong going on here. Also if I keep the AMD drivers uninstalled my computer wont crash at all.

    These are my specs:

    Intel HD i5-3570k (CPU)
Gigabyte windforce Radeon HD 7950 3 GB (GPU)
    Gigabyte Z77-D3H (MoBo)
XFX 650 watt 80+ Bronze Certified ATX PSU (Almost positive, might be a different PSU).
8 GB of Kingston ddr3-1600 RAM and 8 GB of some hyperX ram at the same clock speed (both 2-4).
    Windows 10 Pro 64 bit.

This is an example of the the computer cutting to a screen:

Where did you get AMD drivers from? I would uninstall drivers fully with DDU and then letting Windows Update get a driver for you.

Then if it works, make a backup copy with Macrium Reflect or similar and proceed to test AMD drivers. You can also stay with WU driver too.

Oh I didn't know you could update right through Windows update. I have been using DDU to uninstall but I've been installing drivers right from AMDs website. I'll try what you suggested.

That's the right approach by default, always get drivers from the original hardware maker when possible. But of course when those don't work, then you try others.

Since nothing's worked for you so far, try going back to an older driver version from AMD. I found that solved a couple of game problems for me years ago.

General tip: don't update drivers unless you know you have a need to—often graphics drivers are for new AAA games, so if you don't have the game, don't get the update. Drivers are complex and difficult pieces of software, so problems with new updates are always a consideration.

Always make a system disk image before updating drivers, so you can get back to where you were if it goes wrong.

Rolling back didn't seem to work.

    Follow the advice on drivers.

Have you connected the separate power cables to the GPU correctly and is your PSU capable of supplying sufficient power for your PC?

I once had a duff GPU with similar symptoms - another clue was that I saw video tearing in the BIOS screen.

It appears to work now. Left it an hour on a burn test and there were no issues. I changed a couple things in the BIOS but the more important thing was that I sprayed out my computer with air, it was super dusty, also I used different cables for the GPU. If the problem doesn't pop up for a week I'll mark as solved.

Glad to hear you seem to be on the right track.
