    @vanp,
I checked out my computer for C:\Windows\Temp\tw-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxx.tmp’s and here is some information on them.

C:\Windows\Temp: 576 items total to begin with
--- Originally there were 216 tw-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxx.tmp’s of those 576 items.
--- The tw-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxx.tmp’s dated from Sunday April ‎28, ‎2019 to yesterday Sunday May ‎5, ‎2019.
--- In my case the tw-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxx.tmp’s occurred on a daily basis in clusters of sixteen and all sixteen were within a 1 second time period of each other.

I ran Free up space now starting with Removing Temporary files and followed up by removing 1 more item at a time:
--- Temporary Internet files, WD Antivirus, Thumbnails, DirectX Shader Cache, Windows Update Cleanup, Deletes all system restore points: I did not remove any of the other items.
--- In between each run, I took turns either shutting down or restarting.
Only 1 item made a difference: Windows Update Cleanup: the difference was a new set of tw-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxx.tmp’s was created.

    I finished up running CCleaner
--- C:\Windows\Temp: 576 items total to begin with decreased to 53 items.
    --- All tw-1460-1464-xxxxxx.tmp’s are gone.

KCR, thanks for responding. I looked, and there's nothing like that in my user folder. I think it's safe to delete them. I don't want useless stuff on my machine, and 504 empty folders seems like the very definition of useless stuff. Programmers should be smart enough not to let this kind of nonsense happen. Thanks again.

    MeAndMyComputer, thanks for the info.

I go through a software update and cleaning process once a week on my machine. I delete some specific stuff that I know is safe to delete, then I do Windows Disk Cleanup and CCleaner. Maybe either one of those two would have deleted the folders in question, but I've already deleted them. I'm pretty sure these folders came from v1809; they weren't there with v1803.

Since I run CCleaner once a month as part of my monthly maintenance regimen I’ll continue doing so unless an issue comes up.
--- With that said though I would follow TC......’s advice in post #2 “They are just temporary System files, and will get cleaned up naturally by the system when it is safe to do so.” If I didn’t care about running CCleaner.

BTW, there are additional items in that folder that are not deletable except manually that I know of.
    --- Desktop-xxxxxxx-xxxxxxxx-xxxx.log & aria-debug-xxxxx.log
--- I haven’t been deleting them anyway, but I’ll check them out sometime out of curiosity.

Post #5 by vanp “While all those folders look like garbage to me, why does Windows create them?”
--- Looks like Microsoft is pretty busy with however they are managing Windows 10.
Post #12 by vanp “I'm pretty sure these folders came from v1809; they weren't there with v1803.”
    --- That’s a good observation.

You know vanp, I started using computers OTJ in 1985, no training or anything.
--- Over the years I’ve seen many changes and had to learn how to work with them.
--- Naturally when there were problems, they needed to be addressed.
--- But when there aren’t any problems, I let the computer run as naturally as it should be
--- Just as you have a maintenance plan and I do also, that’s good for us.

Every week there are 'aria' files somewhere. I guess it's the folder we're talking about, but there aren't any there now so I'm not positive. Any way, I delete them every week with no trouble. Don't remember seeing any 'Desktop' files.

I'd stop worrying about this. Really.
There are hundreds of millions of Windows users who do nothing at all about temp files.

The only problem with these temp files is what it might be doing to your blood pressure.
So just forget about them. Really.

They get taken care of in due time, in a safe manner, by the system. Whacking at them will lead to them whacking back. Let them be.

If there are over 500 of them as one respondent noted, I wouldn't call that being "taken care of." And again, they're empty. MAKES NO SENSE. I don't want garbage on my computer, and this is a perfect example of garbage. I'll get rid of it when I see it--thanks.

As you wish, it's your machine. FWIW.... files you do not have sufficient permissions to can, and will, report a zero size.

    Cheers.

When I reported what I found in my system, it was meant to be information on what’s there. It didn’t bother me though as all I wanted to see if there was a way to see if what you are concerned about could be addressed and maybe I would learn something new.

But doesn’t “MAKE SENSE” can be questionable because the way systems have to be “designed” to run not only the way they should be but also maintained in in the manner they should be managed so they run the way they are supposed to can appear to look like it doesn’t “MAKE SENSE”.

In post #19 by f14tomcat “files you do not have sufficient permissions to can, and will, report a zero size.”
--- That is important information & makes sense to me. I may not know why it should be that way but I’m not a programmer or developer, all I know is as long as I keep my computer well maintained and secure, that’s my part of making sure my computer continues to run as good as new.

I know you don’t want garbage on your computer and I get that as none of us do either. But to me, garbage means something that is dangerous to a computer vs. something that is designed in what the computer needs to run properly.

In todays world on Windows 10, I do have a monthly maintenance plan that I employ during the week before the 2nd Tuesday of the month know as Update Tuesday which was usually known as Patch Tuesday over the years. What I do is create a system image backup, run Free up space now (today’s version of Disk Cleanup) and then CCleaner. At the same time. I ensure that my anti-virus is keeping my computer safe & secure.

I’d like to finish up by saying I’m glad to see someone like you taking care of your system as I wish the people who I help would do the same. Have a good day & happy computing.
