Major parts of system shutting down.

    Hi.

Had a problem with bluetooth, there is no toggle to even switch it on.

Then thought about doing a system restore and was told my surface laptop 2 can't do it?

I had adware running the other day so ran malwarebytes, superantispyware and hitman pro to no avail. I'm having real problems now. I just want it to run.

    Came from a simple chromebook.

Is there any way I can fully back up all my files and just nuke it and do a full reset?

Can't be bothered, would love to do a system restore if I could but feel some files would have some bad stuff (I have no expert ideas really, total novice).

Just want it to work. Maybe it would be nice if it was just clean and I could build it up again.

    Cheers, ste.

If there is no Bluetooth toggle in Settings, Devices then Windows does not think you have a Bluetooth adapter. If rebooting does not fix it then go to the computer maker's support site and download then reinstall the Bluetooth driver.

If that does not fix it then it points to a hardware defect.
    - Look at the Bluetooth tool in Settings, Update, Troubleshoot
    - Look around the support site for hardware diagnostic scanners.

You could always try a Reset or a Repair install but neither addresses the problem you have.

Cheers Try3, I rebooted and the Bluetooth toggle came back and my mouse if working.

If I can just ask your advice.

I have been getting some adware on my action centre to the right.

Is it ok to go back to a system restore from about 3 weeks ago before it came on my comp. Will that get rid of it? Thanks for your time in advance, ste.

Actually, I saw your response because I just logged back in when I realised I had not included my intended second point -
    - Does Device manager show a Bluetooth section
    - Does Device manager, Bluetooth section have an entry for your Bluetooth adapter?
But that is not relevant now. I once lost my Bluetooth for an entire evening despite rebooting. It was as if the Bluetooth adapter had been physically removed. The PC maker was no help because it was Dell. The next morning, Bluetooth was right as rain again and has remained so for the last year & a half.

    The other points
    - I have noticed some threads in which things described as "adware" turned out to be legitimate notifications caused by options set in Chrome. I suggest you search the forum for threads about the Action centre / Notification centre [I don't known anything about it].
    - I never use System restore as it can lead to awkward states in which you do not really know if your computer has cleanly reverted to the date of the Restore point or not. I rely on making frequent system images instead - if you restore a system image then you know that the relevant drives are definitely at the state they were in when the image was made.
So, I do not suggest using System restore.

While your computer is working, now would be a good time to backup your data. Even better would be to do an image backup of your hard drive so if something goes wrong you can recover in 30 minutes or so:

The first thing you need to do is backup your current install. The best way to do this is to use Macrium Reflect Free to make an image backup to an external hard drive. If you don't have an external hard drive now is a good time to get one as regular backup should be a part of your normal process. You can get a 1TB external hard drive for $60 (less if on sale).
