Can I delete System Volume Information in D: drive manually?

I used to have the OS on D: Drive and at some point it got corrupted so instead of re formatting I installed another disk and installed the OS there and now I have another disk as C: and D: is my secondary hard drive ever since, but windows files remained there , ofcourse, I deleted windows files manually already but there's a folder there that contains I believe System REstore points, i can't access normally and can only access with Treesize free , the full path is System Volume Information\System Restore\Program Files\WindowsApps , and it contains a ton of app files I believe, (weird folders with names like OneNote, etc,), all dated from 2017, only one folder dated from 2018 and it was early 2018 and it weights around 2gb, and I cannot delete it, I have a ubuntu boot USB and I think I can delete from there but im not sure if its safe to do so, I already tried disabling system restore for the drive and wiping them from disk cleanup advanced options but it didn't help, the 2gb is still allocated to that folder and I cannot remove it from windows, not evne in safe mode.

excuse me for any typos my native language is not english

So can I delete it or not? I know it will re appear but I want to get rid of those 2gb, as I've said, there are no restore points/ shadow copies for that drive listed on the windows disk cleanup tools, so I'd have to do it manually because it seems like they're dated from my 2017 bugged install, i don't mind it re appearing i just want to get rid of those 2gb of nothing that are occupying space

The easiest way would be to boot a Linux live CD/DVD/flash drive. Then you can delete anything you want.

Ubuntu, Mint Mate, even Puppy would do the trick. Download the ISO, use Rufus to write to a flash drive, boot it and delete to your hearts content. Always a good tool to have around.

Back up all the files you want to keep then reformat the drive. That will achieve what you want and ensure that there are no OS remnants hidden away that might trip you up in the future.

    Thanks

I did that and I was about to do it but I figured ill ask here first if it's ok, relatively speaking, I should be fine right? I mean, the OS was clean installed in my new drive using the old format way, its not an upgrade or anything, its just that drive D: has remnants of an old install that I cannot delete because the folders are protected, at least thats what I think, I need some one to confirm this and need to know if its okay to delete this folder, I would format but I don't have a way to backup 800+ gigs of stuff right now, I don't have another drive this big in any other pc or laying around.

Then put off the job until you do.

I recently lost all the contents of a 1TB drive that wasn't even two years old yet & displayed no fault symptoms in weekly testing. I had put off backing them up because I couldn't be bothered at the time. None of the drive recovery utilities achieved anything.

    Hi @Sora ,
Can I delete System Volume Information in D: drive manually?-29-apr-19-12-39-27-am.jpg

WinRAR download: https://www.win-rar.com/download.html?&L=0 ( download 32 bit or 64 bit as per your system)

Note: I have used it in Windows 7 and should work in Windows 10 too. If it does not, let me know. Then I shall delete this post .

In Windows 7 we have used it to delete autorun file created by short-cut virus on flash drives.

WinRAR can show even "super hidden files" (that do not show up when you check "Show hidden files , folders and drives" in Folder Options) and delete those on command.
