some hidden files that takes up space on my hard drive?

i have a weird problem. i had 181 gb of free space on one of my partitions on a hard drive but now it says i only have 157 gb of free space. i have downloaded files from google drive and with my bittorrent-klient but those files i saved on another drive. i was thinking that maybe windows had created some temp-files to the files i downloaded but i cant find any on the partition im having this problem with.
i have tested to restart my computer and i have the setting on that shows hidden files and folders in explorer.

can anybody recognize this problem and help me to solve this?

    most thankful for all help

What version of Windows ? Type Winver.exe into the search box and run it.
Did you uncheck do not show system files as well as show hidden files?
are there any wierd looking folders with $ signs in them if so they maybe updates.
    Do you have a windows.old folder ?

you should update your profile it makes it easier for folks to help.

    i have version 1809.
i dont see any option for show system files only: show hidden files folders and drives.
i dont see any $ signs on this drive im having problems with but maybe i clicked some setting to hide them.
this partition is only a slave, i dont have windows on this partition so i dont have a windows old folder here.

update my profile..? what do you mean?

Open explorer move over to the view tab then you should see the last on over options click on that which
should bring up a new window and uncheck hide protected operating files

Recycle bin is a system folder. you can clear that out on desktop. Kook for weird folders like bt$ 343 those might be partial up grades.
If they are there just go to settings /update and hit the check for updates button and finish the download.

But we are getting side tracked here type disk cleanup into the search box and run it. click ok on the little box that pops
up (it should have your os drive listed there) click on clean up system files ( it will take a min to check for those.
you should check most of the boxes (If you have anything in your downloads folder don't check that.)(if you have a compress drive to save space don't check that).
It will take a while to run but it will clean out most the temp files, other Os's and the like.

the next step after it finishes is to run disk clean again /clean up system files and when the box shows up click
on the more options tab there you can clean up programs you don't use and delete restore points which can take up space

?? on desktop i only have my original recycle bin, on this partition im having problems with i now see a folder called $RECYCLE.BIN it showed up when i selected to see hidden operating system files.
partial upgrades? for windows? arent those usually saved on the c-volume? the partition im having problems with is not the c-volume. i dont see any folders with bt$.
should i do the disc cleanup on the c volume instead of the e volume that im having problems with? im confused here..
