I tried a few things as a quick fix but no success. Any idea how to resolve this issue ? I’m clueluess and would like to avoid formatting/reinstalling the OS

try this (not a fix): right click on the file and choose open with from the menu try choosing windows installer.
    it might work.

also try running the msi as administrator.
open an elevated command prompt and type in MSIExec and hit enter to see if there are any errors.
open up services and look for windows installer if its disable change to manual.
try stopping the service and then restarting it.

if all above fail you should open a command prompt and run sfc
    sfc /scannow

There is one more thing to try if all else fails

open an elevated command prompt and type in MSIExec /unregister and hit enter
then MSIExec /regserver and hit enter

understand I have never used this in win 10 and could damage your file. this is why I hesitate to mention it.

What is the file type .msi currently associated with?

You can download & use NirSoft's FileTypesMan to find out.

    How do I proceed ? I’m running 64 bits

Because when I try to “open with” the msiexec.exe from the syswow64 folder, I get this

    Thanks again
