I might suggest that if you have a spare HDD, try 1709 on that machine and see if that works.

Then- it's up to you... carry on w/o hibernating and just hope... 1903 - might be some months before offered by WU, if at all to some older PCs. And I'd not install it until after it's first major update.
But hopefully you do have backups and do use disk imaging..
I read about it and they say that 1903 update will be avilable in may . I'll keep trying solutions and post back if I have new info.
It might become available in May, but not to a particular PC via WU for some months. Some still haven't been offered 1809... so you'd probably need to download an iso.
Very strongly recommended- create a disk image before upgrading.
Bear in mind, there's a bigger risk of problems with that with an old PC.
I'm in the same boat as you - with both Win 10 versions 1809 & 1903 will not allow me to hibernate on laptop nor desktop, the option is there but choosing it only shuts down the computer completely as if i'd chosen shutdown instead of hibernate.
Have you tried the sleep option?? The sleep option works on my rigs so i use that instead of hibernate.
Well, my computer goes to sleep when, but if I don't wake it up in 30 mins, then it shuts down instead of hibernating, as it used to. And some times it takes me hours before I get to open my laptop again.
- and was that your experience with 1709?And some times it takes me hours before I get to open my laptop again.
Yes.. when I put it to sleep, it would go into hibernation after ~20-30 mins. And I would wake it up from hibernation after hours or days, without any problem...
Ah, I read that as meaning that when you switched your laptop on or tried to get it to resume it took a long time to respond, but now I see that you are confirming the correct function of hibernation with 1709.And some times it takes me hours before I get to open my laptop again.
I'd return to my guess that you can't upgrade that model beyond 1709 and have the function work, but without trying it (spare HDD, 1709, upgrade to 1803 or 1809) we can't be certain that's what's happening.
Maybe someone else will have an idea.
