Need help changing my Win 10 registration from my fathers email to me

    Hello all,
For my first and question/thread I need help in learning how to change the registration of the copy of Windows 10 on this laptop I just got. It was sent to my parent home because I was traveling there for the weekend and my dad got the laptop sent to them but he was unable to use my email address because Microsoft would not accept it for some reason and he registered it as his own.

The Windows 10 license is "registered" to the computer itself on Microsoft activation servers, not to an email address. Users have no ability to change this "registration".

I think @metalman228 must be talking about signing in to Windows. Sounds like his dad started up the laptop and in the setup phase used his email address as the Microsoft account for the initial account. That is what I assume was meant by 'registration' in the OP.

One solution may be for his dad to sign in and create a second local administrator account for metalman228 to use. The he should be able to configure it as he wishes, or perform a reset and set it up from scratch again, this time in his own name.

Correct, It is a "local" account and not registered with Microsoft. I am talking with support right now to change everything over to me and i am associating this copy of windows to me and I will be good !!

Makes sense @Bree. Just create the new account with the email address desired, give it administrator privileges, delete the old account.

Correct! The Windows 10 disk was bought by a 3rd party (the retailer) who installed it on the laptop when it was refurbed and never registered.

The version or disk containing the individuality that is registered (even though my dad made a Microsoft account), it was not registered with them, it was a "local account" that does reflect back to Microsoft.

I contacted support and they walked me thru changing the email and name to me. Then Microsoft confirmed my laptop and the software and it is now officially registered with them. I never knew about local accounts before.

So all is good, and I learned alot.

Please mark this as SOLVED !!

The OP said his email own address wasn't accepted for some reason, that's why I suggested a local account. It can always be changed to an MS account later, once the 'problem' with his address gets sorted.
