In addition, you can use Ctrl/C to copy all the files, then open the designation folder to use Ctrl/V to paste. Ctrl/X to copy and will delete from original folder when moved to another folder with Ctrl/V. Then of course Delete key to delete.

As an IT guy, I'd like to see better business support. Specifically, built-in, well-documented features such as...

    1. Automated install tools. I'm tired of the after-thought crap Microsoft gives us. For example, we had to utilize third party tools like nLite and vLite.
    2. Policy management. Easy set up of default profile based upon an existing user, better convergence of group policy with local policy, and a more streamlined remote management tools.
    3. Better server tools (Windows Server 2008+ for Windows 9 client management) to manage small business/small office installs with images and image policies instead of relying upon third party firmware like Dell.

As it stands, Microsoft drops the ball completely on business system management, which means third parties have to pick up the slack. I understand giving some room for third parties to compete and make a profit, but when it comes to core components of the OS like client/server relationships, it's time for an all-in-one solution that works out of the box.

I wanted it to be free. Just today, I found out that a very basic OS, may be free. To have any frills you have to have a subscription.

What would I like to see in Windows 9 (or before)?

Well, off the top of my head I like to see

    1. Checking for app updates integrated into Windows Update. I can't think of a single good reason why, when I check for operating system updates, doesn't also check for app updates in the Windows store.

    2. Adapt Split Screen view to Portrait orientation, i.e. what's displayed side-by-side in Landscape view should appear one over top of the other in Portrait view.

    3. A combined inbox for the Mail app. How hard can that be to implement?

    4. Reading Mode, which is currently only available in IE Modern, in IE Desktop, the Bing News app and the Reading List app. Hell, make the API Available to all third-party developers.

    5. Context Menus that look better than the Windows XP style that's currently available. But make it an option so users who like the current context menus can keep using them. Maybe a setup program could show several styles side-by-side for the user to chose from at system setup time.

    6. Fix the jumpy text cursor. Every once in a while the text cursor wonders off to another part of the text you're currently editing, and what you're typing appears in the middle of the text you already typed. This annoys the shit out of me.

I'm certain there's a lot more that could use improvement, but that's what occurs to me off the top of mey head.

"I wonder if Microsoft will follow it success and not so successful patten ?, Windows XP, good. Windows Vista, not so good. Windows 7, good. Windows 8, not so good. Windows 9, good - I hope and will Microsoft use the same file system as Windows 8 ?"

Stephanie, I can practically guarantee that Microsoft shares this hope with you.

Is there an "invert selection" keyboard shortcut in the W8 series?

There is a menu item in the "Edit" menu in W7, but no keyboard shortcut.

Here is a comprehensive list of 8.1 keyboard shortcuts. A File Explorer list is included.

There is an "invert selection" on the ribbon, however, the ribbon can’t be navigated to with the keyboard.

    Attachment 4952

One can perform the "invert selection" with the keyboard also, but first some info. When File Explorer is opened (WinKey/E) it will semi-focus with light grey on This PC with its folders and drives (contents) in the center pane. 4 Tab Keys gets it to fully light This PC to medium blue for full focus awaiting a command. Arrow up or down to focus on any folder and press Enter to show contents in the center pane. e.g. Documents. Ctrl/A to select all the files, then 5 Tab keys back to the Documents folder then Enter deselects all the files because it places the total focus back on the Documents folder icon.

WinKey, WinKey/Combo, Tab, Alt/Tab, Enter, and Esc(ape) keys are the keys I use the most. WinKey, of course, gets me the Start Screen or returns to previous screen. Page up or down, Home or End, and arrow keys are vital to navigate to a tile for selection. I have my Start Screen pretty well memorized because of columns to know where tiles are. WinKey then Tab then Enter gets me the Apps Screen. Same keys as Start Screen applies there.

I pretty much fly around navigating with the keyboard. By the time one puts there hand on the mouse and moves it to the Start Flag, I’ll be on the Start Screen opening an app or file already.

There is a menu item in the "Edit" menu in W7, but no keyboard shortcut.
One thing about the File Explorer ribbon in 8.1 is that there are no shortcut keys for it, so therefore I’m limited with the keyboard and forced to use the mouse sometimes. However, there is a menu key on my keyboard that I’ll use for the folder or file context menu. There are a ton of shortcuts in Office programs' ribbons, though.

If this rumor turns out to be true, I hope the Metro-Desktop hybrid mode will be preserved for those users who've gotten used to it. It's already written so it should be preserved as an option.
